Nintendo Open to the Idea About Letting Xbox Use the Wiimote

In a recent interview with Geoff Keigley from Gametailers.com, Reggie Files-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, said something interesting about having the Xbox use the WiiMote:

Geoff: I was talking to Microsoft and they didn’t announce (at E3) their motion controller. John Schappert (VP of Xbox live) was saying, He loved to talk to you about the idea of using the Wiimote, to work with the Xbox 360, gonna happen?

Reggie: you know those 360 rumors continue….

Geoff: Schapper said, he’d be open to having that meeting

Reggie:You know it’s interesting, for us….

Geoff: Not gonna happen, right…?

Reggie: We said during our press conference that we’re about making people smile, and what’s thrilling is…with Mr.Myamoto and Mr.Iwata and these fantastic experiences we bring to the market, we do believe, we make people smile. And that’s what is giving us momentum in the market place. You know-in terms of, other people trying to tack on to our technology-in our approach and our momentum in the market place-You know, We’ll see…”

Wait, did he just say “we’ll see”!? He went on and started to talk about how he’ll always take Schapper’s phone call, because he’s a big Nintendo supporter and what Nintendo does.

I’m not one to talk about dumb Wii 360 merger rumors, but I do find this conversation very fascinating. It’s a amazing to see Nintendo being open to have a conversation with Microsoft, and possibly licensing their Wiimote to them. I’m not saying this is at all going to happen, it’s just incredible to see Reggie say, their open to the idea. Watch the video below.

Nintensoft CONFIRMED

could it be possibly microsoft wanting to sell the xbox division after this gen? if so and ninty gets it then rare, bungie, etc etc would be on the next nintendo. and can you imagine a halo on nintendo?

If you watch the whole video, they stopped quoting to early. He basically says it's not happening, but wouldn't commit to not happening.

Not going to happen.

BUT moreso than anything else in the world a true MS/Nintendo alliance for next gen should scare Sony to death. MS paying for third parties and taking care of LIVE while Nintendo supplies their quality first party games and a next gen Wiimote would be pure ownage.

I was just thinking the same thing.  Microsoft's futile battle of trying to win over Japan would finally make some headway if they were standing beside the Nintendo banner.  It would be a very scary alliance for anyone trying to enter the console market.

Really, this conversation is moot, since the quote is not the complete conversation.

Title is misleading. Nintendo is not open to the idea, and I'm surprised anyone would think they were. Iwata would catch a case. I mean, who do you think killed Goldeneye on XBL?
