The news out of E3 has me more likely to supplement my Wii with an Xbox 360 than a PS3.
First of all, with FF XIII going to the X360, it means that RPG fans can have everything on one console. The new 60G models will use the latest chipset and should reduce the chance of RRoD, so they might actually be worth getting.
Second, with Sony backing away from BC (for PS2), there is no compelling reason for me to get a PS3 because not many games interest me and I have about 50 PS2 games.
The film delivery options that both announced at E3 are a wash, so they don't really matter.
I fully am aware that the PS3 may be the better value in the long run (and even less when you add in the cost of a wireless adapter and a year of Xbox Live). But with Sony essentially abandoning the previous generation of gamers, going back on its sacred promise, it makes me wonder about the company.
I doubt we will see the sales surge at 85 weeks for the PS3 that was experienced by the PS2. I also think that the closeout sale of 360s will allow it to hit 20M before the Wii hits 30M (by a week).
So in closing, yes, FF XIII could hurt Sony. But I think that abandoning B/C may hurt more in the long run.
