Agreed, especially racing games, what the hell is with all the 1 player racers and shooters? Ridiculous.

Main reason I was looking forward to Haze, too bad that failed. Motorstorm 2 will have 4 player offline though, so I look forward to that.

Im actually looking forward to Gears of War 2, The game is designed around 10 or fewer players and the executions and personal feel, like using your mates body as a meat shield make it a definate purchase for me when I take into account the tweaks that make it easier to play.

So apart from sports games, it seems the only interesting HD console game that has decent split screen will be either Resistance 2 (IIRC) or Gears 2... Thats pretty bad.

Whats worse is that we're from New Zealand, and we don't have any Rugby games to play or anything like that! :( I hate being in the small market sometimes.

That's easy.

Just look at games for the Wii. Mario Kart has 4 player splitscreen, but it has simple graphics and still takes a framerate hit with 4 players. Conduit leaves out splitscreen altogether because the goal is to push as much detail as possible into a single camera at 30 FPS. They can't afford to take a framerate hit to render all that detail four times over.

Most HD games are being made like the Conduit. Put in as much detail as possible at 30 FPS, because you need those shiney graphics to sell your game. Nobody wants to show off a game which doesn't look as nice because it was built to render four cameras. Even though a PS360 game would look far better than Mario Kart Wii while rendering four screens, developers are more concerned about optimizing top-notch single player graphics than they are with building a game which scales down enough to do so.

Motorstorm 2?  LittleBigPlanet (not technically ss, but does it matter?)?  Not sure if KZ2 will have it, the first one did, with bots as well.  And that is just upcoming games (I am sure there are more), since you seem to be ignoring already released games.

LPB! Yes thats the other one I was thinking about. Its the only HD console game I can think of that has Local coop apart from the American/Euro sports games which I do not want!

So really there's nothing to play on HD consoles for 4 players? I think that is a myth my good sirs and you are all not looking hard enough. Also is this possibly more games than the Wii has in this category? Maybe. Just maybe. Mythbusters to the rescue!

@Onyxmeth: I just realized why PDZero was fun for me, while everyone else hates it.

I don't do online multi (except TF2 online and that is uncommon). I never feel like I'm accomplishing anything.

Splitscreen/local multiplayer is different because it is social.
