I never understood why I've never seen some kind of fantasy-themed FPS. Some super wizard running around throwing fireballs at armies of orcs and goblins. Instead of getting better weapons you get better spells to equip, and have to collect mana instead of ammo. That'd be cool. Any decent games like that out? I might go try it. :p

You mean something like Heretic? Or its sequels Hexen and Hexen 2?

However when you release a sequal your almost assured a profit from the get go. I think with the Wii that smaller publishers could flourish, in a good and big way. More original games, and maybe some new blood in the game system. I was thinking that with nothing but big game publishers taking over the market that it was getting stale. |
I completely agree. I hope user created games sold over VC gets the go ahead (or has it already been confirmed?). Development costs seem to be the big thing holding these more creative games back. I'm also hoping this'll give new life to the virticle shooter genre (Gradius, Ikaruga). If developers shift their focus from big budget, cinematic games to smaller, yet more creative games, I think the gaming industry would much better (for me, at least).

Actually, what I want are games for educated adults -- not games for kids, such as Pokemon, and not games for 18-25 year old males, like God of War. Clearly, the Wii is delivering those possibilities, as adults are buying into the system.
God of War style games have had ten or fifteen years to attract adults to gaming, and have made no significant progress. Fifteen years, and a 15 billion dollar a year industry. Clearly, they aren't cutting it. Please note that I'm not saying that games like God of War shouldn't exist; I just think you should realize that I'm not asking for "kiddy" games. God of War is more mature than Pokemon, for example. I totally agree with that. There was a day when I liked Pokemon style games, and then I got older, and I began to like God of War style games (my personal picks were Goldeneye, Mortal Kombat and Tekken, as those were the games that suited my male, teenage brain).
Now, I'm getting even older, and I want something more mature than God of War. You know, something where I'm not a super warrior that slices and hacks through hundreds of people and creatures to achieve ultimate victory.
This needs to be repeated for emphasis: I am not asking for games that are less mature than God of War. I'm asking for games that are more mature, and I believe the Wii is moving us in that direction.

I want shooters to go more CS and Unreal Style, either way you need skill to be the best. Halo.. is to slow paced for me honestly.. and the PC game's controls for vehicles blow.

I can definitely understand this, and agree with it, to some extent. I really, really don't like the plots of modern games, as I've mentioned a million times already. Just as the lead designer of Halo mentioned, I'm tired of blowing up Aliens and Zombies and Nazis.
But I do like skill-based gaming. If I could move gaming in my personally preferred direction, I'd ask for less immature plots (God of Kill War Zone 5) and more skill: for now, I'll settle for less immature plots. Ultimately, I'd like to see games for adults that take a great deal of skill, but first we have to get educated adults playing video games in the first place.

I never knew the Hexen games were sequels of Heretic. I played those games independently of each other and enjoyed both tbh - might have even been before I tried any 'real' FPSers.
I personally think R:FoM was an interesting step for a FPS, it combined the old WW plots with the alien plot, not entirely original but the first blockbuster that has even had a bit of originality in it for a while. T
he direction I think FPS should be travelling in is towards one of a more RPG style, one where you can go to towns and buy new guns and armour and then head off into a cave full of enemies and blow the shit out of them.
Currently FPS are pure and utter letsblowthecrapoutofthem.
Wow, my post really wasnt very on topic was it?

You cant be serious. That surely wont happen on the wii, what the hell makes you think that it will.
Lots of reasons, the first being that the wii is cheaper to make games on, and the audience is big, why couldnt the wii have a mature games on it? I would love to see someone make something original for adults, lots of people said the wii would be a flop, also the ds was supposed to die a early grave as well, if they can make it why cant a mature game for an adult make it as well?
