Forums - Gaming - 1UP: Top 5 Disappointing Videogame Sequels

Super Mario 2 was torture. it even had poisonous mushrooms.
I caught up with Super Mario 2 on Gamecenter CX when Shinya Arino tries to beat Super Mario 2. He succeeds in the infinite lives trick, but it has been capped to 127 lives in Super Mario 2.
The game is pure torture and by the time he reaches level 8 he has a handful of lives left.
He loses most of his lives in a particular jumping puzzle and loses his final life in a simple pit jump.

I agree with SMB2J being a bad sequel, if it is the FAMICOM original version, the All-Stars version is fine...

When Nintendo took Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan) and renamed in the All Stars game "Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels", they changed one thing to make it more enjoyable: The Continues... That phreaking hard game had continues like the other Mario games where you start from the beggining of a world, it was fair in SMB but it was crazy on SMB2J after trying to pass a ridiculously extrahard castle, die two steps before Bowser, get a game over and start from the X-1... So in All Stars they decided that if you got a gameover in X-4, you started at X-4, that and savings were an intelligent decision...

Ill never forget the first time i reached a negative warp zone, i almost destroyed my controller...

i assume they havent played MGS2, as i cant see how anyone would describe it as dissapionting.

I describe it as disappointing.

MGS2 disapointed me big time; but it did make me happy that I didn't buy PS2.

Was anyone else disapointed with 6 golden Coins?
I was. I thought the physics engine was waay to spacy. I didn't see why the jump mechanic was different from Super Mario Land 1.

There are quite a few people that label MGS2 as a disappointment for reasons such as:

1.They replace the calm, cool, and collective Solid Snake with an effeminate and whiny Raiden

2.The cutscenes take a huge amount of the overall gameplaytime

3.The story gets needlessly convoluted near the end

Change number two to Kingdom Hearts 2
and number one to Dirge of Cerberus

And I'd agree...

I agree with DoC but KH2, I beg to differ

Yeah, most people would disagree with me... But KH one is probably one of my favorite game (I must've beaten it atleast 20 times) and for some reason I got I just hated KH2 it was so god damn boring (Didn't even bother to beat it even once).

C'mon. In 2001, MGS2 got STELLAR reviews. It was arguably the best PS2 game graphically, years after it's release. It's still the most varied (gameplay wise) of all MGS titles. Why this game is so hated is a mystery to me. Raiden wasn't so bad (I actually liked him a lot), and the "crazy" storyline was explained in MGS3/MGS4.
