Part of the problem is that *everything* uses the same frequency as WiFi. That includes bluetooth anything (including Wii remotes), 2.4ghz phones, microwaves, flourescent bulbs, etc. They all interfere.
Really, WiFi has no business anywhere near gaming. If there is a way you can run a wire, run a wire.
