Forums - Gaming - S-E not quite sure how they will fit Final Fantasy 13 on DVD for Xbox 360

07/16/08, SE - The development of FFXIII for the XBox 360 will NOT cause a delay to the PS3 version of the game.

07/17/08, SE - We are still studying how we'll be able to fit FFXIII on the XBox 360 DVDs, we want to keep the number of DVDs to a minimum, this is the main reason why FFXIII is being delayed in the west.

they are going to drop 1080p cutscenes to 480p, and 7.1 surround sound uncompressed audio to mp3s. Thats how they will save space.

I predict 3 discs.

They would NOT use the MP3 compression codec as there are better ones out there, and your unsupported speculation on the cutscene resolution doesn't further any discussion at all.

I know, I was using the massive drops as examples of what they are trying to do. Plus at least my 3 disc prediction is much nicer then 4+ discs.

This manouvering.... argh! Its pointless but its like a car wreck... I just can't look away.

FYI - 2 hours of 720p Video on a modern codec assuming full CPU resources ala fullscreen CGI effects can be compressed losslessly to 2gb. Damned if I can remember where I saw that, but its a source im 80% sure is correct. I think it was made in referrence to this game actually.

Tease.

I don't have anything relevant to add to this thread other than these slights on the 360 version of FFXIII is becoming annoying.

OT: Anyway, Leetgeek, Daniel Day Lewis is absolutely amazing. I look forward to his movies, along with Tim Burton, more than anyone else.

I am guessing they will try and use a hammer to fit all of it into a DVD.

Now, that is funny.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

This is what you said:

  • Square Enix is currently investigating how to compress the audio and cutscenes found in the PS3 version of Final Fantasy 13 so that it will fit on a reasonable number of DVD's for the 360 version. They also acknowledge that this will add to the delay for release in the west.

This is what they said:

  • The first question on the floor was one to clarify how, if at all, the Xbox 360 release would affect the PS3 version. The short answer is that it won't. Final Fantasy XIII is being developed first for the PS3 in Japan, a region that won't see an Xbox 360 release. The Xbox 360 iteration is a port of the PS3 build, but Square was quick to point out that you can't say this will cause a delay of the PS3 release in America. Separate teams are working on the two versions and both are moving along on schedule. There shouldn't be a delay in any releases.

1. "Can't say" is diferent than "will add to the delay"
2. They are talking about porting in general, you are blaming discs.
3. You left out the next three sentences.

4. The last sentence of the square comment.

You're right it won't cause a delay... In Japan.

Me I actually agree with you, that it will be delayed. But I didn't start lying and making up stuff. I state my opinions as my opinions, not as statements that other people didn't make.

It's not a lie if it's the truth though...

See you in 2010 FFXIII...
