I think grears 2 will sell less then gears 1. Bets anyone? Gears 2 will actually have competition including MGS4, Resistance 2, GTA4, Killzone 2, etc.

Gears 1 went up against what? Lair on 5 PS3's?


And Infamous looks so much cooler the Gears it's insane. Also gears is bland which I was only able to discover after purchasing it myself. Will not get gears 2, I will rent. no doubt it will be nice and short like it's daddy.

Firstly Gears Of War 2 looks pretty much like Gears Of War  , it isn't that far ahead of anything else made this gen. And lol @ Gears Of War hurting sales of an exclusive game on another platform.

bah "more important" as in more sales than MGS4 perhaps. More important than Halo3? Good joke.

what are supposed to buy 20M+ x360's users? games for PS3? how can a game on another platform prevent an owner of the x360 to buy a game for its own system? ah, yes...tired of shooters one could save 60 bucks and spend 460$ for resistance 2 (another shooter): that makes sense!

just to make it clear i'm not speaking about "system sellers" (and honestly, with the notable exception of Wii sports, i don't believe anymore in the old tale of the unique game that sells gazillions of consoles: i've grown up...MGS and GTA anyone?) ...i'm speaking about PURE game sales.

Gear of War2 is really REALLY not important since it is a Xbox 360 (360 keep it on ur head) franchise.

Halo, Forza, FFXIII, GT5 are FAR MORE IMPORTANT

IF they air Killzone ads during Christmas, they will LOL at Gears 2. And seriously, it doesn't look that good. It looks better than Resistance 2 no doubt, but Killzone eats Gears 2 alive.

Because Geow Had pracically no competitors in terms of graphics by the release time...))

Now, GeoW 2 will have to stand against Resistance 2.

Of`course, x360 has a strong FPS/3rdPS userbase, but this time geow2 has nothign to offer, only fans will buy it.
The question is, how many there fans?=))

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

I'll give Gears 2 6.5m-7m lifetime(AWESOME, to be sure, but not as optimistic as yours.) So, yeah, it'll outsell it's original, but I'm just not ready to put it at the Halo level yet. Halo, so far, is the second most important game this gen for the HD consoles(saleswise, with GTA4 being the most.) Most people will be buying it for the online, but if you want it to sell at Halo levels, they're going to have to nail the single player or many folks will just rent and forget.

*I'm not saying Halo3 had the greatest single player, I really don't know. But the Halo series is a brand defining franchise and I think it'll take more than online chainsaw fights and meatshields to unseat the king(of 360) from his throne.

CoD4 did 6.20 million... I expect Gears2 to reach 7 million. It won't outsell the Chief, tho.
