it seems impossible for that to happen. the ps3 runs on a huge hard drive. Creating a slim version would be bad. Its best if they just make money off their hot exclusives like Resistance 2 and then announce a price cut. @ SaviorX, the best time to get a ps3 is when God Of War III is released. That's a game you can't miss out on.

Thats a huge harddrive?

I hope there will be one

Yeah, it won't get as small as a PS2 slim, but it could get as small as a laptop considering the hard drive is laptop sized. It'll happen in time. Japanese FF launch would be perfect considering Japan's love of small efficient designs.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Not sure. Historically consoles with sales numbers like the PS3's haven't got slim versions, but Sony might make one anyone. The recent decision to improve profitability at the expense of sales sorta points towards no, though.

I personally hope that there will be one. A slim PS3 with good hardware reliability and backwards compatibility to PS2 is just about what it would take to make me buy one at this point.

I think there will be a slim version, but it could take longer than many expect, as Sony is heading for a 10year (?) lifetime cycle for the PS3.
If the slim it down in the fifth year that would be around 2011.

Of course a horse is a horse of course of course. The real question is when it will happen. It's going to be a while. I wouldn't hold your breath. Doesn't Sony keep talking about a 10-year plan? Well then isn't even three years into it's lifetime a little soon?

Edit: ^you beat me to it. Welcome to forums. We're always looking for logical thinkers around here, we're slightly low on that at the moment.

Considering the PS3 has one of those huge power bricks internally, they could just take it out and it instantly drops to 360 levels.
Shrink the motherboard and heatsinks and use one of those br drives you have in laptops and the only thing they have to worry about is heat and reliability.
It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of, is it in 12 or 18 months?

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

I'm in no rush to buy one, so, I can wait.......
