Forums - Gaming - Nintendo sales not casual/kiddie

I'm I the only one who is getting really tired of this argument being repeated all the time? Its like the people who can't accept that the PS2 was only launched in 1 region for 9 months and that is the primary reason LTD sales of the PS3 are similar to the PS2 ...

The Wii's game sales are not unusual in any way shape or form. All forms of (popular) entertainment follow the same pattern of sales where products that are based on existing IPs or are marketed heavily outsell new IPs that are marketed poorly regardless of the content. There are only a couple of exceptions to this rule and those tend to be products that are created by someone (or a group) who is so famous that they bring attention to the product, or a product which is so high quality that people have-to experience it.

Realistically, I don't think anyone would argue that if Metal Gear Solid 4, Bioshock, Gears of War or Grand Theft Auto 4 was released for the Wii that they would sell poorly; the problem is that similar games haven't (really) been released yet. The Resident Evil games give me hope that Fatal Frame and Dead Rising can sell really well on the Wii, and the more of these games that are released (hopefully) the less I will have to hear this argument.

Maybe ...

but if you compare the number of games sold on the XBox 360 per month of console ownership to the number of games sold on the Wii per month of console ownership you will see that people are buying Wii software at (roughly) the same rate people are buying XBox 360 software. This implies that even though it may be the case that "casual gamers buy less games." the other Wii owners are buying enough games to make up for the difference.
