The E3 Presentations

E3: The videogame showcase that has been decreasing in importance for several years (harsh way to start) has somewhat finished a little, with the presentations of all of the Big 3 being completed. So, for the sake of argument, I’ll discuss what happened, and who I think "won".

I Speak: First, I'll start off with Microsoft's presentation. I won’t go into too much detail about what they had (neither for Sony or Nintendo), but they had some deals that weren’t about games, Gears 2, Fable 2, and of course the FF13 announcement. Hmm…..parts of Microsoft’s presentation was blatant rip-off of Sony and Microsoft, including:

o New Dashboard (arguably)

o Avatars (Mii knock-offs made by Rare)

The other stuff that they had was pretty boring, except at the very end, when it was revealed FF13 was taken from the PS3’s clutches. This single fact alone would convince most to think Microsoft won…..in my opinion that’s not the case. I believe that lack of originality alone detracts from the presentations “rating”. MS’s ideas weren’t exactly amazing or shocking to me.

Secondly, I bring up Nintendo. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of their presentation was fucking garbage. But the rabid fanboy in me calms down a little and the forum journalist takes center stage. I’ve been a true and blue Nintendo fan since I was 2 years old, and never in my life have I been so disappointed towards their actions. I’m aware that E3 is for the media and news stations and it’s supposed to represent Nintendo’s strategy etc. Check CrashMan’s thread for that part.

I don’t have any problem with what they showed in their presentation. The problem is that they didn’t show ONE “core/hardcore/whatever” game. That jerkoff Matt Cassamassina said Kid Icarus E3 this and Factor 5 that, but when the time showed up, we saw nothing. If it isn’t confirmed, it’s not right to jerk us around, then backpedal and say it’s not coming yet. I don’t care if they announced it 5 minutes ago, if it wasn’t in the presentation, Matt lied. Now in all actuality, the games presented by Nintendo might sell many more copies than what was shown by Microsoft and Sony in their presentations. But that doesn’t change the fact that “casual” was all that Ninty wanted to convey to the media. I just wanted one, one big announcement. I could understand how some can say it seems like Nintendo has abandoned the “core/hardcore” crowd, the ones that kept them relevant during the GameCube days. Even though the “hardcore” Nintendo games could be announced tomorrow, it would’ve seemed like Nintendo cared more if they put one of them on the (somewhat, or used to be) grand stage of E3. The core games could sell themselves, but promotion does not hurt. I just wanted one game I could consider a first day purchase.

Finally, we get to Sony’s presentation. To me, they had the consistent announcements. We knew most of them were coming, but they had a better balance of games/business venture than Microsoft. Sony had more game reels and had a few surprises of their own, like the Socom MMO. God of War 3 is also something kinda big. Their PR couldn’t really dwell on numbers that much because they are in 3rd place, so they couldn’t boast domination like Nintendo could and couldn’t announce passing the 360 sales numbers.

It was a tough decision, but I think Sony “won” the “Presentation Wars”. Nintendo’s thing was too disappointing to me to say they won. Microsoft took one thing too many from Nintendo and Sony, plus the rest of the presentation would’ve been Wack Juice without the Final Fantasy 13 acquisition. Don’t forget, FF13 is still on the PS3, along with Versus. I can’t remember more things right now, but your posts will refresh my memory. I will probably agree with some of your posts too, despite what’s posted here, and I’ll explain why.

Around the Network

i agree. FF13 was the biggest shocker but then again people with a ps3 will still be able to play it and ff13 vs is still only on ps3.

microsofts rip offs were pathetic.

nintendo gave me nothing

sony showed some new games and thus they won

I don't like when topic creators put discuss in the end....

I mostly agree with you but I think the final fantasy hit was much more then you make it seem. I really mean it was a hit, I always thought FF would stay with sony, like some kind of marriage between each other, in some way it feels like a betrayal. Same way people say about FF7 going away from Nintendo and into playstation's lap, that was a big moment in gaming history.

MS seems to have no originality at all and Nintendo presentation was very weak. Playstation did win this E3 for presentation.

No prob, I'll edit it out.

As for the FF13 thing, it was big, it seems like after every 6 games Square Enix switches teams. FF1 - FF6 Nintendo. FF7=Playstation. FF7-FF12 Sony. FF13=Microsoft (as well as Sony). I didn't want to comment on the doom and gloom people thought would happen because of the FF13 conversion, because I'm not sure yet. However, I did want to say this when FF13 was announced as multiplatform: "PS3 is dead now! They still got exclusives but, DEY FINISHED!"

final fantasy xiii will sell more on the ps3 than the 360. regardless of what platform its on. The fact that they said their keeping it exclusive in japan, it'll sell more by a small margin. Final fantasy is huge in japan. I guarantee you more people will buy it in japan than u.s. and others.
