Forums - Microsoft - Now that this is over, what does FFXIII acutally mean for MS?

I think the victory for MSFT is psychological. FF was a series that you would buy a PS to play. Along with GTA, MGS, GT and a few others, these were exclusive games that made compelled you to purchase a PS. But increasingly the PS is losing the exclusive franchises that made it a must-have console. With the exceptions of MGS, GT and GoW, Sony does not have any exclusives left that are KNOWN (this word is why I do not include KZ2 or others as bonafide, must-have exlcusives) to be high-quality franchises. To be fair, MSFT has lost a few notable exclusives. But none of these compare to losing GTA or FF.

I think its the first definite indication that SE are placing more focus on the US market, which is what they promised to do earlier this year. I suspect the most important thing about this announcement is that it signifies what SE will do in the future - more multi-platform games - which indicates that a lot of their games will appear on both the PS3 and 360.

And we thank Microsoft for this every day. You just basically admitted Microsoft is willing to lose money to please it's customers. Good job Crazzy. I'm glad you see it.

FFXIII will do most of it`s sales on PS3,
maybe 1-2 mln. x360 owners have now ONE less reason to buy ps3, but eventually they will buy PS3.
PS3 is a MUST HAVE console THIS gen.

What money, they didn't give Square anything. SE came to them. FFXIII is well over budget and they actually want to break at least break even on the game.

wait, your saying that ms never came begging to se about this?  look at all the (mostly like or definitely) timed exclusives coming from se onto 360.  you think that ff13 never came up?  you have got to be kidding.  ms is throwing money at se, whether it was specifically for ff13 or not.  at the very least ms must have used that in part of their bargaining for other games.

I think this means much less for ms as it does for sony.  most people who would or have a 360 wont change.  people who have a 360 but wanted a ps3 have one less reason.  ms's only benefits are less of their user base with a competing console and software royalies on ff13.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

Well, with FF on board, the 360 is THE console to own for RPGs.

basically....Square Enix is the ugly chick that Microsoft settled for at the bar. just cause it could get some. But don't worry. Square Enix has been around the block and we all know how that story ends.

It means a couple of extra million in software sales.

It means a smallish hardware bump that the console wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

It means the 360's RPG lineup just got a whole lot more impressive.

But mostly its just great for pr, and is really a symbolic move that hits home just how similar the ps3 and the 360 are in terms of developer support this gen.

It means people looking to buy a console have more reason to a 360 over a ps3. The 360 is cheaper, it has most of the ps3 exclusive games on it but the ps3 has none of the 360.

-UBISOFT BOYCOTT!-

Wait lets remember how FFXII was released for the PS2, which had a 100 million install base ( still selling ), and it only sold 5 million ??? Well all xbots are raging over how its a slap to the face, but from evidence has this, i won't be expecting the 360 version to even top 2 million.

There are some good points here, dumb ass ones too!

M$ is an American company which bases it's weapons on psychological power to confuse and disrupt it's competitors. They will use their money to buy what they need, or don't just to have a mental blow to Sony, and to also confuse customers as well. So, the win is not in sales here, it is in taking away 1 extra reason for a 360 owner not to sell their system and to make the potential Sony customers looking for the JRPG's to buy their platform. They are attacking the JRPG market, as this has been Sonys strengths in the past, once again to creat mayhem at Sony. But, will the 360 have more JRPG's?.

M$ will never get the Japanese market though, so in the long run this really does not mean much at all appart from fanboy fodder. Also, look at the really good JRPG's already on the 360, that have sold quite poorly. My guess is that FF13 won't break this trend and will do around 1 mil on the 360, good but compared to the PS3 this will be very little.

Just MO.
