Pay-per-view cable has been around since VHS VCR's. It hasn't exactly taken over the world. Also, the article you, FishyJoe, posted yesterday about some roundtable with a bunch of movie studio execs also states that they don't see movie downloads taking off in the next five or even ten years. I personally don't see movie downloads taking off until they can resolve their DRM issues. One of the reasons studios like these new optical formats is because they have put some nice DRM into them.
Anyway, it just seems like a lot of sour grapes in here, that's all. The format, HD-DVD, some of you are rooting for (for not much good reason, I might add) is going to lose. Therefore, some of you are declaring that you will not join in the blue optical world at all and will even root for the ridiculous (e.g., HVD) instead. |
Thanks for pointing that out about pay-per-view, I don't understand this as an argument, it's NEVER been popular enough. Maybe broadband services will improve to be a more viable option, but, as I've said b4, humans like collections and movie studios like encryption software.
@nathantay, only 22% of PS3 owners buy BDs??? so then just add another 831,600 BD players to the hardware lists and compare BD to HDDVD. And you are 100% full of shit, as they DO enclude? include the HDDVD add on into all HDDVD hardware lists.
"and most of those BR? BD releases you will be able to import" WTF does that even mean? Do you mean rip? copy? import to another country b/c they removed regional coding for this very reason? what exactly is your argument? maybe you should just walk away from this topic.... at least until you get your facts straight...................
Dammit, I just came to this thread to ask who plans on picking up 300 next week and what format your getting it in, DVD included? Anyone? I guess Your Mother you'll be straeming in over HD cable, oh wait, nevermind :p
EDIT: I'm picking it up Tuesday at 12:01 at Wally World in blu-ray.
