Hellboy II looks way better than the first, but I'll have to see it to see if it actually is. From the previews it looks like the gave Del Toro a lot more freedom than they did with the first. I guess after the success of Pan's Labrynth, they just told him to have at it.
Tbh, the first Hellboy didn't interest me very much. It was the amazing preview of Hellboy II (which I didn't even know was about Hellboy until he popped out near the end) that inspired me to watch the first. It was a pretty good movie, and the sequel just looks levels above it to me.
