Well as you all know i just recently got a ps3, along with metal gear solid 4. Ive finally beaten it and this is what i think.
Keep in mind all scores are out of 10 (haha =P) and ive never been a fan of the stealth genre.
Presentation 10
Ive played through alot of games, and few alot of the ps3 demoes, and nothing looks as good as metal gear does. Easily the best looking console game out, it never fails to blow me away in terms of its visuals. Specially the last scene, the environment looked great and i couldnt help but be impressed by the character animations throughout the game. Even the lip synch was fantastic. Besides looks, everything is done just so well.
Controls/gameplay 9.5
Ive never been a fan of the stealth genre, but i still ended up enjoying the game big time. In terms of gameplay, it does stealth/action very very well. there are TONS of ways to play the game. It would be great to just sit down and ask everyone what gadget they used, or what weapon they used to beat a level or boss because there are a LOT of possiblities. There is tons of fun to be had if you use your brain. There are also other sequences that you are not stealthing but even then the gameplay excels. My only gripe would be the choice of controls. Peaking around the corner was a major problem. It took way to long and was a huge hassle to try to take cover and fire, it should have been done better. Also having the dodge and change stance actions as the same buttons screwed me over a few times. There are a fewer minor things but nothing else to serious.
Sound 10
Ive heard my fair share of awsome sound tracks and Metal gear belongs with the best of them. The in game music is fantastic, and the music during some of the more memorable cut scenes is some of the best ive heard and always expresses the mood. Not only that but the ipod music is also pretty sweet. Sound effects such as guns, bombs, screams are all done EXTREMELY well. Also the voice acting is the best ive heard and fits each character extremely well. Overall the sound quality is the best ive heard ever in a video game.
Story 11
Yes i just gave it a 11/10 because i cannnnnn! Its THAT GOOD! Honostly, ive NEVER played a game with such a good story (besides some of the FF games). If you are a story heavy person, then you will LOVE metal gear. The plot twists, the cutscenes (in game of course which is awsome), character development, and the ending are all just amazing. Its easily the best ending ive ever seen, even if it is really long. I dont want to spoil anything. easily the best aspect of the game.

Metal gear solid 4: Guns of the patriots is something special. Its not a game for the masses, such as halo or gears, but it is one of best games ive ever played in my life. Easily in the top 5. Honestly i dont know how to put it, but if your a fan at all of story games then you HAVE to give metal gear a try. This game alone is almost worth a ps3. The story, music, and graphics all add up to make this my favorite game of this gen (along with bioshock) and create a memorable experience that you will probably never forget.
