Play FFVI and IV first. Then play IX, X, then VII, then anything else after that if you wish.

You have to admire the presentation of final fantasy games. quality music, graphics, characters etc. the games are pretty easy compared to shin megami games like nocturne. my least favorite is FFXII. ffxii is good but lacks story and character build up. I admire what square tried to do but they put them in the wrong way. the battle system can be fun at times.

It was great when it was Final Fantasy 1 - 6.  When Final Fantasy 7 came out, your character was a real pussy and it was all about a high school love triangle with obnoxious CG videos that you had to watch whenever casting high level spells.

Newer final fantasy games have gotten worse, with the 'heroes' moving more toward the metro-sexual sissy side of things, away from the badass side of things.  And the stories often play out like a bad anime high school romance.

because of the setting in each games. their games are so futurisitic. the bosses in the game are like no other. The battle scenes are awesome. the cutscenes in the game are worth watching.

with all of that packed into game no wondering the series is one of the best selling series. almost every final fantasy game has sold 1 million or more in the first week. i guarantee you, final fantasy xiii and versus xiii will sell 2.5 million the first week.

I wouldn't say they're "one of the greatest gaming franchises ever made" but they're better than a kick in the pants at any rate.

The battle system in FFXII was very deep and quite fun.  The story and characters, while not bad, could have benefited a lot from more cutscenes.
