ROFLOL

Probably around the time the emotion engine starts showing emotion

^agreed

Toshiba is introducing a line of laptops with a mini SPE-only co-processor for some vision gimmicks (hand wave to change volume, that sort of thing). A quick google should pull it up.

Never. x86 and x86_64 is king.

There is already a project involving a Cell with aim to a CO-Processor on certain application, but it come in a form of a card (Like a PPU) and probably it will never see the light of day and if it does, it never be used by the mainstream...

Well, the CELL is going to become outdated.

So, never.

EDIT: If you think the above is serious, you are an idiot.

All things become outdated, but that doesn't mean they can't be used.

Yes, as an add-on card. It has already been developed and sent around for preview purposes.

I'll give it two years tops. Quad core gaming rigs are still recent. I wonder if the cell can be overclocked past 5 gigaheartz on each SPE, that will be cool. But it'll probably need a hi tech heat sink with interchangeable dry ice lmao

Used as a replacement of the x86??? Never, most of the software is on that plataform, and the Cell is not powerfull enoug to make the industry move to the PPC and leave all that software to the x86...

Edit: And to takke advantege of it, it will need a major rewritte of code, so its never going to happen, AMD and Intell will push, and with more success, APUs...
