Forums - Microsoft - Leaked MS to Gamestop/Blockbuster Email: 60gb pricing, 120gb price drop.

Seems legit. Man on man does Microsoft have issues with leaks though

I don't know if it's fair to blame Microsoft.  The leak probably came from employee(s) at retail stores.  Something that Microsoft has no control over.

Anyway, the price is still a bit high but 18% profit for retailer, that is pretty good margin for them.  I am sure Microsoft did plenty of marketing research and determined what price point people willing to pay.  I recall back when PS1 and Dreamcast day where MU was costing like $30-40 each and those have a fraction of storage even compare to 20gb.  May be Microsoft still operate on the old model ....

I am not sure what all the "value" crap Sony fanboys here is sprouting.

Let see some retail pricing of Sony products

Sony PSP Memory Stick Pro-duo 2GB $49.99 (suddenly 20GB for $99.99 doesn't seems so bad in comparison)
Sony PSP Battery Pack $39.99
Sony Dual-shock3 $54.99
Sony PS3 HDMI cable + USB $79.99

This is how company make up for the lost on their console. Every company does it. It also give incentive to retailers to sell console so they can reap profit by "up-selling" the accessories.

I am not defending Microsoft pricing because I agree that $179.99 for 120gb HDD unit is utter rip-off but please lay off this Microsoft is corporate evil. How much did PS2 HDD unit cost last gen? This generation Sony went with internal replaceable HDD (bless their designers for that), but if they didn't and used external unit do you think Sony would have price it any less than Microsoft?

If the price drop is true, then we will definitely see a spike in sales. The HDD stuff is just not a sales driver at all. You are getting slightly less ripped off, that's all.

There has been a lot of speculation as to how the rumored 60gb hard drive would impact the established hardware in the Xbox 360 lineup. Thanks to some leaked info, we have the complete details. ... Below is a portion of an email being sent out to GameStop and Blockbuster buyers (logistical people handling what the store actually stocks). The email has the complete details on the 60gb hard drive and what will happen to the 20gb and 120gb hard drives. Email follows:

With the introduction of the 60GB Pro console in July, we have research that suggests it is very important to have a 60GB stand alone Hard Drive to go along with it to allow the consumer a full range of choices and values. In late October/early November (exact date TBD but most likely last week in October or 1st week in November), we will ship the Xbox 360 60GB Hard Drive, tentatively called the “Xbox 360 60GB LIVE Starter Pack”. This will be an excellent value price at and ERP of $99.99 with an 18% retail margin that contains:

· 60GB Hard Drive

· 3 Months of Xbox Live

· Xbox 360 Wired Headset

· Xbox 360 Ethernet Cable (same one that is included with Pro and Elite)

Positioning: For Xbox 360 Arcade and Core console owners, the Xbox 360 60GB Live Starter Pack offers all of the components to get onto Xbox LIVE and jump in to on line multiplayer gaming and Marketplace content downloads at an incredible value.

With the end of life of the 20GB Hard Drive and the price drop of the 120GB Hard Drive to $149.99 in September, this new 60GB hard drive will fit very well into our “Choice and Value” pillar and will fit nicely into our accessory line up. Exact SKU/UPC/Set up info will come soon and once we nail down the exact MSD, I will let you all know immediately.

The XBF Take: How is 150 bucks a good deal for 120 gigs of storage? But at least this 60gb will give new comers a decent setup and enough space to enjoy XBL. But then again, XBLA games keep getting bigger. When will we get a large HDD at a low price? We'll relay more information as soon as we have it.

Doesn't seem too bad - Users that want to upgrade to a 60gb will be able to do so at the same price of 20gb's now, but will get about $40 in free stuff. Hopefully this boosts sales.

I smell Bulls**t. There's no way Microsoft could sell a 60 GB Xbox360 pro for $100.

Oh wait, I may have misunderstood that. Is that a price to upgrade from a 20 GB to a 60 GB?

That I could believe.

... I can get a 60GB HDD for... $45 with 3 dollar shipping. For $109 I can get 320GBs.

Seems like m$ is releasing another ripoff HDD? yep.

they don't make 320 GB drives... for xbox.

if M$ would do like Sony and allow you to switch out the 2.5" HDD in each one of their HDD cages then it could.

Oh well by the end of the year i will have a 500GB 2.5" HDD in my PS3. And for $115, estimate price, too.

Too loate for that though... and isn't that modding, in a way?

ALSO: I saw a pic. of a 1 tb ps3... damn.

What would you use all of that space for??

@strategyking

Well 10 years life cycle & every games require install! j/k

Seriously though, you probably can put a lot of movies, musics etc on there and play it through the PS3. It is a nice multimedia hub and hell of a lot quieter than 360.
