Forums - Microsoft - Leaked MS to Gamestop/Blockbuster Email: 60gb pricing, 120gb price drop.

ok so they plan to up the HDD capacity and drop by 50 the price, that's a balanced strategy I like it, from their side they can still make profit, and from ours it still a price drop and an increase in product capacity... we'll see how it turns out, but I think it's a well thought solid strategy....

With this new bit of pricing information you can make some educated guesses.

First the information:

New 60GB Xbox Live Starter pack is $99

120GB HD dropped to $149

Currently Elite is $10 more than Arcade + 120GB HD

Currently Pro is $20 more than Arcade + 20GB HD

So some guesses:

Xbox 360 Live Arcade SKU + 60GB Xbox Live Starter kit should be $10-20 more than Xbox 360 60GB Sku.

Xbox 360 Live Arcade SKU + 120GB HD should be $10-$20 more than Xbox 360 Elite Sku.

If 360 Live Arcade SKU is $280 then 60GB could stay at $350 and Elite will be $430

I suspect tho that 60GB will be put at $300 so Arcade would be $230 and Elite $370

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Microsoft does not know how to keep their cards close.

They've given Sony a week to decide what to do about the price drop, rather than be shocked by it at E3.

Also, MS is including another Sku? So they'll have 4 Skus

Arcade for 279
Pro for 300
60 gig for 350
elite for 450.

I always thought Microsoft overpriced their add-ons. For example a wireless adapter is $100. I could get a usb one  for a pc for $20. For the price of their 120gb hard drive, I could get a 750gb internal one. I don't see how that is a good deal.

Edit: Oh and I also don't see a benefit in 4 skus.

Edit2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148298 750gb hard drive.

... I can get a 60GB HDD for... $45 with 3 dollar shipping. For $109 I can get 320GBs.

Seems like m$ is releasing another ripoff HDD? yep.

like any console maker ever did, the add ons or goodies are over priced because they make actually bigger margins on that.... it's not new and it's not an MS trend... now I'm not sure but I think they use laptop micro drive for HDD not standard ones so price comparison is harder, but yeah you can find even cheaper if you look long enough....

I'm more concern by their pricing strategy and new package than the actual price of the stand alone we almost all have our own console already anyway...

now I don't think they'll have 4 SKU I think they are about to drop either the pro or the arcade and replace it by what is the pro now....

i used notebook drives, which are standard 2.5" drives, for my prices.

they don't make 320 GB drives... for xbox.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

This what I get out of these 'leaks'

There is not going to be 4 skus; they are going to have 3:

A. Arcade w/ 20Gb. (This way 3rd parties can start to require an HDD.) ~$229
B. Pro w/ 60Gb. ~299
C. Elite w/ 120Gb. ~$369

*All other features remain the same*

They will no longer offer the 20Gb as a seperate add-on since it will from now on be bundled in the Arcade model. Instead you can upgrade to the 60 or 120Gb HDD's for $99 and $149, respectively.

Personally, I think this is a good move. Puts a good basic 360 below the Wii that has all of the benefits of a 360 right from the beginning. Allows for easier multiplatform game creation for devs as the PS360 will now definitely have HDD's. Also, keeps them decently below the PS3's prices to make up for the lack of a Bluray player.

I don't think this will force Nintendo to drop its prices this year. Maybe more colors though. I do think Sony may do a $30 to $50 price drop though. I'm betting on $30 to ensure they are still profitable. They may wait to see the actual affect though as the 360 price drops in EU did nothing to Sony or Nintendo's sales.
