Forums - Gaming - Fallout 3 Hype

Why isn't there more hype for this game on VGchartz?  Say what you will about its supposedly dumbed down RPG mechanics relative to Fallouts 1 & 2, it still has a pleathora of great Fallout standards: including an undoubtably rich story line (supposedly with 500+ endings!), and a brilliantly conceived since of atmosphere.  Bethesda has a pretty good track record with RPG's too (see: Oblivion), so I'm sure the gameplay won't be too shabby either.

Next-Gen.biz made it number 1 for its 30 most anticipated E3 games, and Brian Crecente from Kotaku also said it's maybe his most anticipated title for the show (tied with Left4Dead).

Now, those two endorsments alone are great, but really all that needs to be said about the potential in this game can be summed up with 1 screenshot:

I'm sold.  Relative to both the other shooters (KZ2, RFoM2, P. Jackson's Halo) and RPGs (Fable 2, FFXIII) talked about on this site, this one is getting far to little attention.

I´m really looking forward for this game. I do wish that it kept more with original Fallout 1 and 2 views, but I´ll give Bethesda a chance to win me over. I just hope that they make a 3rd person view that actually work this time.

Bah! Embedded version cut of the coolest part of the shot: here's a link to it:

After Oblivion, many people have lost faith in Bethesda... and with the changes made so far on Fallout 3, it seems they will make another disappointing game.

The fact that they are worsening the core of the Fallout series, and dumbing it down completely, all I can say is: Screw you Bethesda!

I'm just thankful it's not Fallout Madden 09. If you squint hard enough or just have vision problems you can still make out the framework of an RPG in Fallout 3. They do have eye surgery now to help with that though, so I suggest you look into it. Take a free pair of sunglasses and a lollipop on your way out too.

Sounds promising. =P

Probably because fallout was an extremely unique one of a kind franchise... and now it's "Elder Scrolls FPS edition".

Which could of been done just as eaisly without the fallout name and left to the guys who got outbid who actually wanted to make another game like the first two.

Just imagine say... if they turned FF13 into a minigame collection.  Even if it's the best minigame collection in the world.  It's not what people wanted from that franchise.

A rich story line, strong atmosphere and pretty graphics don't make a game fun to play, if Fallout 3 is dumbed down I'm going to be furious.

I've heard the "Oblivion with Guns" analogy before and I'm not really buying it.  The "Childhood character creator" feature of the game alone, for instance, is enough to differentiate it from Oblivion.  As for not being what people wanted, people thought Metroid changing to a FPS would be a mistake too, yet when it came out the game was so great everybody seemed to forget their earlier complaints.  I can't say for sure whether this will be the case with Fallout 3, but i do think that analogy is a little more apt then Final Fantasy minigames.

You're right, and I hope the gameplay is not dumbed down either.  I didn't post that screenshot to show off the graphics tho, I just wanted to show people you could shoot people's legs off in grusome fashion (and unfortunately that part of the screenshot also got grusomely cut off).
