Forums - Sony - MGS 4 Sells 3 million in first 2 weeks

this numbers are about shipped not sell

So does shipped mean that Konami gave them away for free?

I have to repeat it yet again... Konami would never know how many units were sold at retail. They just know how many they sold TO retail.

They will have much better idea of how many sold then Vgchartz.

it's probably "shipped" (or better, "sold to retail", for sony and konami already have their share of the money), but 1million+ copies lying around at retailer shelves sounds a bit high to me

The article says it is 3 million "at retail", wo how do we "know" that it is supposed to be "to retail?" Is there a specific reference someone would like to share?

You do not have the right to never be offended.

We were having an interesting argument over this in the news section a few days ago.

Activision said that they sold 300k of GH: DS in one week, so I said, it's obviously shipped, but no one (not even Trestres) said that they meant shipped and not sold, but apparently Activision knows what they actually sold because someone said that it was actually sold.

So, I'll take the Naznatipz approach to this:

Publishers have internal tracking, but like all sales tracking it's estimates. They base it off retail demand. In general a publisher will be vague about where something sold so that they can present the higher number (the shipment number) to the media and shareholders.

So, I don't know how correct this 3 million number is, but I still don't understand how it was okay for Guitar Hero DS, but not for MGS4.

Its easy to understand why its ok for Nintendo game but not for PS3 games, you have been here long enough.

@ ChichiriMuyo )

the text says "According to Hirai, MGS4 has sold more than 3 million units worldwide in its first two weeks at retail." - the "at retail"-part just says, that the game has been available at retail for 2 weeks when those numbers were reached, not that the "3 million units" were sold "at retail"

Oh no not another of these threads!!!
