Forums - Sony - What should Sony do with the PSP?

Well, the PSP is somewhat a success, but it still feels overshowdowed by the mighty DS. So, what should Sony do to really compete? It's doing quite well in Japan, but just barely competing everyhwere else.

The PSP biggest problem is probably its software sales. It seems that while people are buying it, they are doing so for the wrong reason, music, videos, hacking and more. How does sony goes in combating this problem? Or will they just wait until they release the next version to fix these problems.

What do you think?

I think they can't do anything. Just try harder with the next handheld. The problems with the psp is that it was suppose to be a handheld that plays console games, and it was too much focused as a media player. This time they should focus more on handheld designed games, and less of a media player.

new PSP coming to you this E3.

Believe.

How about what they have done in Japan, why cant this happen in NA and Others. I think if Sony focuses on the psp with the right game, it will shine with the big boys.

I'm not sure what you mean by this.  The install bases of both NA and Others are currently larger than in Japan; that market is just playing catch-up.

They can't do what they did in japan in Others or US because the ds isn't at saturation in those regions. Once it reaches it the handheld generation would most likely be ending.

The biggest issue would be that the PSP's phoenix-like rebirth in Japan was due to a mix of market saturation for the DS and the release of a new game in the PSP's answer to Pokemon. Overall software sales in Japan for the PSP have not risen noticeably in spite of the hardware up-spike. That does not make a system look appealing to developers. Not that the inherent piracy that surrounds the PSP would do them much more encouragement (even if in reality the number of people who will pirate a game when the option arises but buy it when the piracy option is unavailable is very small).

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I dont think that theres anything Sony can do with the current PSP. Sony should just learn from their mistakes and make sure not to repeat them when they release PSP2.
