I had a friend over this weekend who saw that I was using a 3rd party intercooler and he went apeshit telling me to take it off as it will ruin my console. Something about it draining my power and not helping with the cooling at all.

I have not had any issues myself and have been using this intercooler since October 2006.

I just wanted to ask what the general opinion of this accessories is on this forum. Who is using them? Who had issues while using them? Any info would be helpful.

I've heard that they can damage the console. Still, that was a long time ago (around launch) so I have no idea where things have gone since then.

Nyko intercooler will void your 360 warranty. I read it somewhere on the web. Intercoolers can actually cause more hardware problems than without.

I was in a video game store, a couple years ago, and the salesman was trying to sell an intercooler to some lady buying a PS2 for her kid. The guy told her she needed the intercooler, or her house could CATCH ON FIRE. From that dayf on, I've been very anti-intercooler. Doesn't have anything to do with performance, though.

There was quite a bit of discussion around the nyko one as it ran off of the 360's power supply rather than having its own. In doing so, it robbed some power for the internal cooling fans and in doing so made the heat problem worse. There were numerous reports of the plugin getting so hot that the intercooler fused to the 360 body and those warranties were voided as it was clear the intercooler contributed to the failure. All conjecture and hearsay, but it was widely reported on the netz about a year ago.

See I have the nyko one that causes those issues...as it was the only one available when I got my 360. I don't have a problem switching it but things have been great thus far...

So no one here I guess had issues with intercoolers?

My ex's nephew had one, and his 360 RROD'd. I didn't have one, and my 360 RROD'd too. I don't think the intercooler solves any problems. It just makes you think it does.

They take up alot of power and overheat your 360.The intercoolers are dependant on the 360's own electrical intake and are not good for the console.

 And the difference between your nephews 360 and yours is yours will be replaced with the warranty.
