Back then there wasn't much of a difference between casual or hardcore, because almost everybody was starting gaming. Almost all games were hard though. Examples being Metroid and Zelda. I don't think hardcore was created until the Snes days.

Hey - a lot of us here had been playing games for a while before gen 5.  The PS1 did expand the market quite a bit though.

 

I was talking about the nes. :)

The problem wasn't the cartdrige but Nintendo mentalty of that time.
The cartridges were only a means to Nintendo to control the industry.

Now that eNamrah mentions it...there was a footage of an early build of FFVII running on the N64, wasn´t there?

It would have totally turned things around for Nintendo. I still believe Sony would have gotten a lot of support still, but Nintendo would have had FFVII and that would have made all the difference.

Another question, if Sega of Japan had never stepped all over the toes of Sega of America by discontinuing the 32X support and fucking up the Saturn launch, do you think Sega could have taken over, or at least been succesful and not struggling?

Sony paid off developers to not develop on the N64 and the Saturn.

Third parties however told the gamers that it was because of draconian policies and lack of CDs(N64) and difficult programming(Saturn) for their excuses.

Not that they were lying about those issues but it gave them a reason to not sound like jackasses to the public(similiar to Western devs blaming Nintendo history with third parties as a reason why they were late to the DS and now getting their shit pushed in from tiny Jap devs.

I however, have not forgotten the statements made last decade and the horrendous pro Sony revisionism that has occurred over the years.

Thanks to a paradigm shift these tactics don't work on Wii owners.No casuals,kiddy owners and confused demographics to blame this time(like the lies they told DC and GC owners last gen for ditching them).



Prediction:
Disney will make KH3 with Nintendo.Yes,KH3 will be a Disney/Nintendo crossover.

No it was just a FF based game that was suppose to help the developers get used to 3d models. I believe that celes, and terra were in it from FFVI. FFVII I think was originally in developement for the Snes but then was going to be developed for the N64, but then finall for the ps.

I'm kinda glad that things turned out the way they did. Nintendo was my first love, but thinking back, they were sorta dicks. They needed to get knocked down a peg or two, and become more humbled. They're back on top now, so everything worked out in the end.
