Forums - Gaming - PS3 arrived... help please.

Recommendations for stuff available now
Blu-ray: Buzz! (great for the whole family), Everybody's Golf (great fun), MGS 4 (aquired taste; I loved it), Ratchet & Clank (lots of fun), Singstar (awesome), Uncharted (very good)
PSN: Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (utterly rocking, but I'd buy the Blu-ray for resale value), PixelJunk Monsters (dangerously addictive), Super Stardust HD (fun and trophies), Tekken 5: Online (1080p 60fps beat-'em-up fun), Warhawk (online awesomeness)

ebay for hdmi cable, almost any will do, dont pay more than £10 for one, they can easily be found for a fiver.

games, depends what you like really, ratchet and clank will probably appeal to you and your wife unless your idea of gaming soley consists of shooting/killing things.

If your HDTV supports deep colors I would suggest to get a HDMI 1.3 cable.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

You can't go wrong with PixelJunk Monsters

Oh PSN store games:

1) Super Stardust HD (demo available)
2) Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
3) Pixel Junk Monster (demo available)
4) Super Rub'a'Dub (loved it with my girlfriend and kid sister, demo available)
5) Snakeball (trailer available)
6) Call All Cars
7) Dark Mist
8) Commando 3 (demo available)
9) Blast Factor Advanced Research (basic demo available)
10) Gripshift (or maybe Everyday shooter)

Maybe Warhawk or Gran Turismo 5 Prologue if you don't want them on Blu-Ray (more expensive).

Unfortunatly, the online community for Snakeball is pretty much dead. You can still get the demo. In fact, you can only buy the game in the demo. It is a great game a family can play together for a good bit of 1-4 player local play. You can even play against each other while waiting for others to join your server randomly.

The critics were extremely harsh on Super Rub a Dub.  I think they forgot the target audience.  My 3 year old son absolutely LOVES that game.  If it weren't for Mario Kart Wii, he'd still be playing it.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

Right... so I now have all 3 systems...

See I'm not the 360 fanboy (fanoldbloke) you all thought I might have been.  I'll post my impressions later.

Its a 40gig obviously and I need a couple of things straight away.

Can anyone recommend a decent and cheap HDMI cable (cos it looks garbage on the supplied cables) and a wireless keyboard?  (I'm in the UK)

My wife and daughter want singstar!!!??? and i will pick one other game up (not MGS4 yet) any recommendations... plus which games should i download from the store?

www.monoprice.com for all your HDMI cables. Place is nuts. Cables I saw for 60 bucks a Best Buy are 4 there.

edit: Wow, I was beaten 3 times. :)

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

This space Reserved for the Nuggets of Wisdom dropped by Bladeforce:

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

Hey kowenicki, congrats on the PS3!
Listen to these other guys about the HDMI wire. I got a Monster cable that was retailing for $70. Big ripoff. I got lucky, though, because I was getting an HDTV at the same time, so it got thrown in for free. But shop around. I saw some cheap ones on Amazon a while back if you can't get monoprice to ship to the UK(though, I don't see why they wouldn't .)

As for the keyboard, I don't yet have a wireless keyboard. Whenever I need a keyboard, I bring home the one from work. It's USB, though. I'm definitely going to start looking, though, as typing these posts with the Sixaxis is probably going to drive me mad!

Oh, and about Singstar, I've mentioned this to another new PS3 owner with a daughter as well, please be careful with the online video submissions. There's a feature on Singstar where you can upload vid clips of your karaoke to the community for viewing and rating akin to YouTube. Like most online communities, some of the content could be inappropriate for kids depending on their maturity level. 99% of the vids are probably fine, but some might be a bit over the edge. It is great fun to see and laugh with/at alot of those vids, though. Some people go all out with costumes and everything.

I left my game recs on your page a little while ago. Hope to see ya on PSN sometime!

I'll hit you up for some advice when I first adopt a 360 into my home. :)
