There are over 1000 (maybe over 9000 even) nerve endings in the foreskin that are cut off during circumcision, so condomless sex with a foreskin FEELS BETTER.  Also, that chafing, well, it's lubed up inside, so it's not painful, and it FEELS BETTER FOR THE WOMAN.  It's how sex is supposed to happen between mammals.  You only think it looks weird because you're in America.  Only 25% of men are circumcized worldwide (only Jews and Muslims), but 75% are in America (for bullshit health reasons that are lies).  But that number's decreasing.  It's more like 60% in America now, and decreasing faster and faster as more parents do their own research and find out how painful it is for the baby.  They don't use any anesthesia.

And cleaning it is easy.  You use soap and water in a bath or shower silly.

Well back then they did it to stop masturbation, because they did it when you were 13, not when you were a baby.  They waited right until you hit puberty and your penis got really sensitive.  THEN they cut it up.  And then everybody in America stopped masturbating, right?
