Personally I consider the 4th to be a celebration of not just our independence but the birth of the modern free democracy (even if the date is off a bit).

So in my opinion anyone who wants to celebrate freedom, democracy, and liberty is more than welcome to join in the festivities, even if we don't all agree on the best way to institute these ideas.

Freedom: The condition of being free; the power to act or speak or think without externally imposed restraints

Liberty: Immunity from arbitrary exercise of authority

Democracy: A political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them

Note those are all definitions pulled from googles definition feature, and the democracy definition is for a representative democracy.
