Forums - Sony - finally got a ps3, got some questions/concerns

The ps3 doesen't support the compiler dattebayo uses. .. Well the new one. It does support the old they used to use. The new is a (h)264 something but packed in avi.

Try getting the files converted (i have the same problem as you) and let me know if you get it working. Also read up on their website for the exact compression they use :)

Check out my game about moles ^

The PS3 air flow gets really hot, a lot hotter then any of the other systems x3. Buts thats just normal and does not affect the system. People have left their PS3's on for months at a time and nothing happens, PS3's are even used as game servers so don't worry about the heat. But i would put atleast 4inches of room on the right side of the system.

And whatever you do don't put any system on the right side of the PS3.

so i was finally able to find a 80gb bundle and i'm enjoying my ps3 but i got a couple of questions about it.

1. I noticed that my ps3 gets hot pretty fast, or at least when compared to my old ps2, is this normal?

no, my ps3 doesnt get hot unless i leave it on for 15 hours.

2. Right now I keep my ps3 in a pretty cramped area, is it better if I kept it in a more open place with more air or does it not matter?

yes it shoud be placed in an open area.

3. I have a dsl connection, if I choose to play online wirelessly would it be able to run without much lag or should I just use a wired connection?

It works fine for me

4. I was told that the ps3 can play most avi files but when I tried to play a fansubbed episode of naruto (subbed my dattebayo) it wouldn't work, am I doing something wrong or will it just not play?

The dattebayo encoding is crap and they compress the files to much. Even if you managed to play the episode you'd have a hard time reading the subtitles.
