the sega CD was not an overpromise it was capable of that just too pricey.

Sony gets smack for showing CG as gameplay(aka Killzone). They also get smack for the Emotion engine(old man face and ducks). Nintendo did the same thing as well(project reality and showing an art gallery that wasn't even possible on gameconsoles until the Dreamcast)

It wasn't even using the 500 mb or whatever, it was unnecessary and hype.

Night trap filled the CD. Most emulators actually use compressed auido for the roms

I dont think sony cares for the customer any more...Remember the Saturn Vs Playstation era when Sony was straggling to win a position in the console marketplace when they announce the prize of the first playsation would be at 250$ agaist the sega saturn 350$. I dont see that after 11 years after their first console. What i mean is i dont see the aggressive politics they had 11 years ago. And as the history books are refering no console brand could stand 3 generation in a row at first place. Sony is destined to fall as the crowed who was their core 15-45 years olds demografic is now about 26-55 years olds. They simply want a change and the answear is Wii that is my humple opinion on this matter.

I wasn't saying Sony was "milking" their customers the systems are a good price for the technology that is in them but in general are very poorly priced. Most people would have gladly bought a PS3 that had a DVD player, a slower CPU and GPU for $300 ... Every XBox 360 fan would complain that their system had better games and was more powerful and should sell better than the PS3, while the PS3 outsold it in every region 2:1 (See Dreamcast)

The Playstation and PS2 were successful because they were moderately powerful consoles released at the right time at an affordable price ...

lets be honest.. sony is now know for being arrogant because of 1 person and one person only... the father of the original playstion... he's the only one to publicly make stupid comments that pissed everyone off...

I think it has more to do with it coming out earlier than the next two competitors, I mean it was more powerful than the Dreamcast wasn't it?

It was, but that wasn't the point ...

Early games looked worse than Dreamcast games and (while the Dreamcast survived) every Sega fan was pretty bitter that their system had better games and was selling worse than the PS2

Sony is arrogant. And it has nothing to do with claims made before the final PS3 come.

Here is a list of why I don't like Sony (while I have some fun with their PS3) :

E3 2005 : Trying to make ppl believe CG were actually in-game (KZ2).

I've been working with retailers. I've seen document distributed by Sony "explaining" that the PS3 was 15 more powerfull than an X360.

Rumble/Immersion : lying by saying you canno'nt have rumble WITH Sixaxis, while the real reason (fight against Immersion) was publicly known. Harrison saying the rumble was past... two weeks before the deal with Immersion and the possible return of rumble in sony's pad.

Talking about global launch, pointing MS problems, claiming how much Europe is important to Sony... we all know the result.

"I want a PSP for X-Mas" website... seriously ?

Retro compatibility for euro PS3 vs price...

What Sony try to do to Kotaku after the "Home" story.

Tretton and its 1200 $ dollars deal...

Overally, Sony has a way to make you wonder "Do I really look that stupid ? Do they really think I'm gonna believe all this shit ?".
And since they keep on going (seriously, USA low sales because of EU launch ? It's not even the same PS3 model !), that's saying a lot about what they think of their potentiel customers.
It's arrogance.

Still wondering why some ppl may not like them ?

Look at previous claims by both Microsoft and Nintendo that were also totally BS... I didn't say they aren't BS ing did you even read my post at all? or did you just read the thread title?

you make some really good points..

they should not have lied about all those trailers...being real..

they should have just been honest about rumble not being in the ps3 from the start instead of admitting to it 6 months later...

they did screw europeans.. over a little.. if they took the emotion engine out they should have lowered the cost a lil bit...

what they did to kotaku was disgraceful

so i agree with some of your points...

but Microsoft is the same way just not as bad...Peter moore basically telling people to get over the 360's overheating problem is one example...

sony has done a better job starting this year not to come off as arrogant.. its not much but at least its a start

Good post, though I have to say I find it highly entertaining that the only arrogant Nintendo quote you could find was in the SNES era. You could have at least pulled some N64 era stuff. I know Nintendo were douches then haha.
