Forums - Gaming - Price not GTA IV to blame for slow PS3, 360 sales, says analyst

Analyst Michael Pachter reckons 90% of last gen sales happened at the 199$ price.

Seems like it will be 2010 before we see mass penetration of ps3 or 360.

Hmm, a low price tag didn't stop the Gamecube and Xbox from being miles behind the PS2. I think it could be for a different reason.

With the current economic situation I think Price Point is a very valid reason for slower HD penatration , i'd buy both the 360 & PS3 if i had the money to but the cost of living is making it increasingly difficult.

still the ps2 did sell very well at the lower price range.

I mean long after the 360 and ps3 launch it is still a big enough seller.

Damnnn! So the Wii will sell gangbusters when it hits the price point. (he has to apply the same rule to all systems except the handhelds since they are already below the mark.)

Nintendo may go through more huge constraints.

p.s.- I think he is still somehow making excuses really.

Again, analysts are giving too much importance to price, ignoring all the other factors.

The fact that PS3+360 are selling less than PS2+Xbox combined (on a per-region launch-aligned basis) means that their problems go farther than mass market adoption... Clearly, the Wii is stealing core gamers from the HD consoles. That's probably too complicated for some analysts to realize though.

PS: "Price not GTA IV to blame". Does that make sense? Did someone seriously blame GTA IV?

It seems the analysts are amongst the last to clue in.

A few things:

- the NA market will not eventually become 10x what the current install base is (~30 million)

- there has been a 15+ year belief that a more pricey console could be successful (CDi, 3DO, CDtv,...), and I think MS became the first company to actually tap this market properly.

wow you dont need to be einstein to see that price is the biggest selling factor for the wii.

Any body read the blogs underneath.

plenty of fanboys over there too it would seem lol.

You don't need to be an Einstein to realize that that's BS ;) Why didn't the Gamecube outsell the PS2 then?
