No way! Canada does! We have, umm... Celine Dion? Okay I'll shut up now.

If we look at TODAY, I'd say yes, Canada is the best country for great new bands at the moment.

Best band worlwide at the moment imo: Arcade Fire.

Brilliant band, so new and fresh saw them at Reading festival last year. but not the best band at the moment, they haven released anythin too recently... have they?

Around the Network

Klaxons
Bloc party
Faithless
Chromeo
Fat boy slim
the libertines
the hives
Muse
Simian mobile disco
Jamiroquai

to name a few more british bands which are recently appealing to me.

But thats not to say that there isnt a hell of a lot of fantastic bands that i adore abroad.

Arcade fire- Canada
Pendulum- Australia
The cat empire- Australia
Justice- France
Daft punk- France
MGMT- US
The Killers- US
CSS- Brazil
etc.

If we treat 20th century's music as an overall world competition, there's only one thing on this planet that was better than music from UK & Ireland (imo): Black American Music (until late 70s/early 80s).

what about u2 thin lizzy black sabbath deep purple

american music for me growing up was the doobie bros steely dan that kind of genre.
I liked music from both sides of the atlantic.

Deep Purple?? Black Sabbath?!? Oh my god!

Who's next? Cliff Richard? Rick Astley?

U2...well okay. I still like listening to Under a Blood Red Sky, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, & All That You Can’t Leave Behind from time to time. Hm, seems I still like them despite Bono's glasses.

With the long list I named only SOME of my most favourtie UK & Irish music artists. There are so many more I could name (e.g. Walker Brothers as a band and Scott Walker solo).

Arcade Fire mentioners in this thread get a cookie from me.

I like Heavy Metal and all I can say is GB rules....

Steely Dan are one of my most favorite (white) US bands (yes, they used to be a real band back in the days, not only Donald & Walter).
