Forums - Gaming - Soul Calibur IV announced on 360 and PS3 not on Wii in 2008

As I previously said but everyone jumped on me that it would be insane not to have this game on Wii:

Did Soulcalibur: Legends make you worried Namco Bandai had ditched the series' roots? Breathe easy, as we're setting your fears to rest; as we previously revealed,Soul Calivur IV is coming and today we can confirm the fourth iteration headed to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2008.

Details are scarce, but here's what we know so far: Ivy, Mitsurugi and Nightmare are all confirmed returns, new and unannounced characters will make their debut, and the game features "realistic environments, interactive stages, enhanced AI, and a new battle system," according to Namco Bandai. A lot more will be revealed in EGM's upcoming Soul Calibur IV  cover story.

The big games that are non Nintendo are gonna come to 360 and PS3 because of the graphics gap while spinoffs go to Wii.

Yeah. It was only a fanboy dream. The Wii is getting Soul Calibur Legends. If that was not enough evidence that Soul Calibur 4 wasnt coming to the Wii, IDK what is.

Excellent, the next great beat'em up franchise after Virtua Fighter that is going to hit platforms with userbases that can't or don't want to support such a game enough to turn back a healthy profit for the publisher. Pure assumption, though is it that far off from reality?

If DOA 4 sold that well on 360 you don't think Soul Calibur can? please...

Also, is every game gonna have to be held back graphically so that it gets released on the weaker Wii?

So far my theory stands that no top of the line big 3rd party games are coming for Wii and are staying on 360/PS3 being released for both.

DoA 4 was a launch game, was one of the few games at launch that weren't PS2 ports and was published by Microsoft.

As for your theory: Yes, at the moment it really looks that way. The thing that could happen is that those "big" 3rd party games won't be big anymore this generation, saleswise. What would happen if the spinoffs for Wii would outsell the main series entries on PS3/360?

Then they stick with making cheaper, lesser versions of their series for the Wii because they are already selling and keep pushing the tech on 360 and PS3 using the money from the Wii versions to finance their bigger projects.

Sad but true. Of course, that doesnt mean the Wii wont get quality games as well...
Top of the line big 3rd parties have already made up their minds on the consoles. They have invested millions on research. They will stick to their decisions, eventhough they may be, in a sense, incorrect. This is, of course, considering the early estimations of the Wii's downfall. Reason why the, in a sense, BEST games are already headed for the 360/PS3

These companies are now scrambling to work on ANYTHING for the Wii. As the years pass, however, there will be a greater focus for the Wii, but never as large as the PS3/360.

All of this, of course, referes to the biggest development companies; it is also targeted mostly to the more Western companies. SquareEnix already moved their DQ franchise to Nintendo hardware, and are putting more of their FF spinoffs on Nintendo.

Yeah, that makes sense[/sarcasm]

This is true, but the Wii isn't a bad thing for developers because they can cash in on quickly made games that don't have much to them just like Ubisoft and EA are trying to do now...

The problem is the Wii is actually holding back the graphical jump in consoles and game companies want to move to the next graphical level all the time. Also don't give me the PC graphics are so much better than consoles crap, most of these companies will always remain console centric and why shouldn't they? PC is losing its top games to the consoles this generation...

Makes perfect sense if the cheaply made Wii games are selling, they have more money to spend on the games they are making for the other two consoles that cost more, how does that not make sense?

However, who is to say that we NEED such a big jump this gen? The Wii did a small jump, the PS3/360 made HUGE Leaps. Developers may be pushing for the graphical jump, but only because MS/Sony are pushing. Are you predicting that the graphics next-gen will be five times what we see now?
