Forums - Gaming - MIT leads to PS360 controller?

http://www.masshightech.com/stories/2008/04/14/story11-Motus-hopes-to-grab-Wii-like-magic-with-remote.html

First this:

"Unlike the Wii, which reacts to the flick of a wrist and movement of the controller relative to an infrared receiver close to the screen, the Darwin reacts to its own relative position, using a gyroscope and accelerometers."

I went huh when I read that, either the guy from MIT doesn't know how the Wiimote works and may have been infringed upon or he has infringed on Nintendo - sounds like he was around in 2001 though.. granted wiimote was in concept since 1998 (The remote itself didn't come around till around 2004.) But I want to know how the IR has anything to do with it's positioning as far as it's accelerometers go, if I remember in 2006 there was a whole article by IGN about the subject where they found it didn't use a gyroscope as that would make noise and instead used accelerometers to do that task.

Last time I checked the only time the accelorometers only affect with the IR is to display rotation.

I haven't seen this on any site though.. kind of wierd... oh well.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
