Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: The 360 will be selling for a looooong, long time.

I'm still betting on a neXtBox on Holiday of 2010 release.

Around the Network

Microsoft intends to release the successor before Sony and Nintendo release their next consoles, if that is possible. They strongly believe in the first mover advantage, and they plan on getting that again.

That said, Nintendo is rolling hardcore with the Wii and Sony and MS both want to hit profitability and neither has sold nearly as many units as they'd like. None of the systems can be considered powerful anymore, but that obviously isn't important as the PS2 had all the games even when it was woefully outdated.

Nothing surprising there. We'll first hear rumblings of a new console during the summer of 09 or 10... 15-17 months later, we'll get the console. So, if we hear nothing this E3 (and we won't), that means 09 is out of the question.

I'm curious to know if MS wants to push the new console to 2011 or not though... I have mixed feelings about that. While I want a new console sooner, not having to buy new hardware is nice, too. :D

Well, we first read articles in EGM about the PS3 and what it would have back in 2003....so perhaps we'll hear about this year or in 09.

Are you sure 2003 the first time we heard stuff about the PS3.  I thought it was before that, PSM had stuff about Blu-ray and how it would be part of the PS3.  The magazine is in a box in my parents basement, so i don't know for sure

With all the FUD in full force concerning this issue, they had to say something. At least they do have the decency not to lie to customers and claim a 100 year lifecycle for the 360.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I believe that Peter Moore was asked about the next Xbox before he left Microsoft.

He stated that the engineers are currently specing the system out for a 2011 or 2012 release..

IMO, they are probably going to spec it out for a late 2011 release, and see where Nintendo and Sony stand at that time. I doubt Sony will cut the PS3's throat (and lack of profitability until later in its life) that early. Nintendo is a mystery, but I don't think that if the Wii2 launched near the nextbox, that it'd stymie X720 sales.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Hmmm... if they plan to sell for a while, they had better get a slimline 360 out.
Xbox 360 Slimline could revive the 360 in japan. Japanese think it's too bulky and the hardware stigma is firmly attached. A redisgn might shake this. Just show ads showing the 360 Slim being all cute, and say straight "the 360 Slimline is extremely reliable" or something like that to show that they won't get burned if they buy it. Bundle it with a few JRPGS and Microsft should be golden...

Haha. I reckon 2010 they will put a new one out. Just based off the fact that MSOFT is after the consumers cash. I mean look at XBL and all other perhirphals. And by then they should have made a sufficent profit to ensure the creation of the next XBOX

Are you implying that at one point, the 360 had life in Japan?

I forgot that Sony and Nintendo were charitable, non-profit organizations.

Sorry, but Robbie Bach is full of crap. He farked up when he admitted Microsoft wants to be first out and is now in coverup mode. Here is why the Xbox360 must be cut short: the 3 year extended warranty for the RRoD. Let's say you'd normally only want to be supporting your console for 8 years, including a standard 1 year warranty. You'd want to sell it for 7 years and then leave the last for warranty support. Now, what has happened with the 360? It has to support two more years than normal. In an 8 year support scenario, 360 sales would have to be stopped at year 5 so that the final 3 can be warranty support.
