They're not working hand in hand but the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" definitely applies here.

Simply put, MS isn't worried about Nintendo. They might copy them to gain a bit of market share but ultimately, that's not what they're going for. MS cares about Sony and wants to take the living room from them before they get a chance to settle themselves into it.

But, in typical MS fashion, they never bothered to pay attention to Apple, the one who has the best distribution system, the best prices, and the most convenient way of doing things with AppleTV.

Beware Apple over the next three years. They're going to completely fuck up the entire market. They may not win but they'll mix things up a lot.

I agree, Apples plan of attack is becoming more apparent as time goes on. I doubt they will actaully release a dedicated console- they are going to try to leapfrom Microsft and just sell their product as a multimedia living room device. iPhone will encrouch on handheld gaming, and Apple TV will encrouch on console gaming, but if they muck it up, Apple will easily pull ot and still have their media player.

I don't think they will release a dedicated console, becuase they will probably only be able to take 10-15% of the market if the do that. So they are going to leech away 5-10% of the video game market without making a console at all. I don't think Apple's entering the makert will be good for gamers though.

Apple taking 5-10% of the video game market? Would that make gaming their second biggest success? I highly doubt they can take that market share...

Oh man, 4 'players' in this industry is just too much, IMO.

Sometimes I miss the 'quasi monopoly' of the NES.

Related to Rocketpig's comment and NJ's follow-up regarding Apple

What are the prices of an Iphone -- $200 plus $100 per month service?
What are the prices of an Ipod Touch -- $400?

What is the price of a PSP -- $170?
What is the price of a DS -- $130?

Apple will try. They will have more success than the Pippin. But then again, so did the Supervision.

Now related to the topic, Microsoft's quality issues (RRoD) caused it to lose any advantage it had gained by jumping the generation. It has to be very careful this time so as not to lose its gamers and while trying to gain new ones. A 2010 announcement and 2011 release just feels right.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Hey mike, off topic, but I´ve ben meaning to ask you....a comment of yours caught my attention, which was "the Wii is starting to remind me of the Intellivision"....what did you mean by that? (I don´t know anything about it)
