Sims Online:  budget 25m, failed due to monthly fees

Daikatana:  budget unknown,  romero's studios collapsed soon after its release.

The Last Express:  budget 6m.  they didn't even advertise for this game

Ultima 9:  nine year development cycles.

Shenmue:  budget 70m.  it was single-handedly responsible for selling at least seven of Sega's equally ill-fated Dreamcast consoles

the Gateway:  Budget:  city sized.  Driving game with massive map and nothing to do.

E.T.:  Estimated budget: over $50m (inflation-adjusted)

Atari paid somewhere around $25 million for the movie license, then had their programmers hammer out a game in a mere five weeks.

I never played these games but they all sound bad - except maybe Gateway.  Sequel was planned to come out on PS3 but was canned.

I think anyone who has ever played Shenmue will tell you that its an incredible gem of a game.

Also, Last Express was a good artistic game.

These 2 failed cause of mismanagement and advertising, not cause they blew

LAIR LAIR LAIR. \\

shenmue is the only game in there that don't deserve to be called a disaster, its a shame just to put shenmue in a list with craps like ET, Daikatana and the Gateway

I have a feeling Haze is going to put the hurt on Ubisoft.

Around the Network

what was the production cost of Haze. I see that it sold 300,000 ww.

Hey.. Where's Lair and Haze? Well at least I need to see Lair on that list.

Haze was moderately big budget and a fairly hard flop. Lair was massive budget and colossal flop. Haze doesn't deserve to be there but Lair definitely does.

What is this list compiled of?

Big budget games that turned out like crap

or...

Big budget games that sold like crap

If its sold like crap Haze really shouldn't be on there...

Haze will be multiplat and probablly recoop costs.

Lair is debateable too. What is selling like crap? Lair could possibly be at .5 mil with Others if figured in... selling like crap I see only a couple 10's of thousands being sold..

Shenmie didn't sell well because of the low userbase of the Dreamcast
