Forums - Gaming - NaturalMotion and NVIDIA Bring a New Level of Realism to Games

June 11, 2008 - NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in programmable graphics processor technologies, and NaturalMotion Ltd., the developers behind the highly acclaimed euphoria motion synthesis technology, today announced that the companies have teamed up to offer game developers and publishers easy-to-use, highly integrated solutions for adding animation and physics in next-generation games.

Starting with the upcoming release of NaturalMotion's morpheme animation engine, NVIDIA's PhysX technology will provide rigid body dynamics functionality across its product portfolio, supporting both console (PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii) and PC platforms. In addition, PC titles will benefit from GeForce GPU acceleration for both PhysX and future versions of morpheme, bringing additional motion fidelity to the PC game experience.

"We're deeply impressed by NVIDIA's commitment to push physics to new levels of fidelity and performance, and their investment in development and support infrastructure across all platforms," said Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion. "NVIDIA's PhysX technology provides a robust, high-fidelity foundation for our advanced character animation algorithms and tools. Through our close collaboration, we will help game developers bring fully interactive and believable characters to a wide range of games."

"The introduction of NaturalMotion's AI and Adaptive Behaviors is the next big breakthrough in gaming," said Roy Taylor, Vice President of Content Relations at NVIDIA. "This technology takes us into a new level of immersion as characters roll, jump, duck and react to the players' actions and the environments around them. We are delighted to be working with NaturalMotion to bring this new level of character animation to the world."

About NaturalMotion

NaturalMotion Ltd. is the first company to create 3D character animation software based on Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS), a technology that utilizes Adaptive Behaviors and artificial intelligence to simulate the human-nervous system. Based on research conducted at Oxford University on the control of body movements, NaturalMotion's euphoria synthesizes 3D character animation in real time on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Having debuted in Rockstar Games' record-breaking Grand Theft Auto IV, euphoria will also feature in upcoming LucasArts' upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

NaturalMotion's off-line DMS product endorphin creates animation an order of magnitude faster than traditional techniques, and is widely used in the film and game industries, with customers such as Sony, Giant Killer Robots, The Mill, Capcom, Namco and Konami.

NaturalMotion's third product, morpheme, is the industry's first graphically authorable animation engine designed to give animators full control over the look of their animations in-game. Announced morpheme customers include IO Interactive, Bioware and Red 5.

Well the wii's cpu is highly capable of "next-gen" physics. Actually if it had a little more power behind it I would say about 1.5ghz it would be close to / rival both the cpus the cell and xenon in these processes.

Are you serious?

Physics are extremely CPU-intensive.

It will be interesting to see what NaturalMotion can do though. The Euphoria engine is pretty special.

And if you cut the cpus in half of both the 360 and ps3 you will get around the same clock speed. Both those cpus lose alot of their performance because they use in-order processing while the wii's cpu uses out of order. You may say but they are multithreaded, but you lose alot of that benefit too from using in-order processing. Btw the last pc cpu to use in-order processing was the original pentium. Also euphoria is crap. I really would like to see somebodymove control their body enough in the air to hold on to somebody else. It makes no sense at all.
