Forums - Gaming Discussion - What happens after pc sets itself apart graphically from ps360?

i think one problem that pc is going to run into very soon is that people wont actually care about the difference in graphics. It will all just be about games and price, which tilts strongly in the favor of consoles after not so long.

Actually this is inaccurate.  It's consoles that are going up in price and PCs that are coming down in price.  My families first PC that we ran Doom on and got back in 1992 cost $3000 and was only a mid range computer.  Now a mid range computer is in the $500-$700 range.

Consoles have moved up in price greatly including their games going up to $60 while PC games are still $50 and drop in price fast (usually down to $40 after a month or two and are down to $30-$20 a year or two later usually).

Any gamer that actually buys more than just a couple games could easily end up saving hundreds of dollars over just a single generation.  Computer monitors that are higher resolution than TVs are also a lot cheaper than a TV and I personally use my computer way more than my TV so thats good for me.  And in a 5 year console generation I usually only have to make one upgrade which in this generation I upgraded and bought a GeForce 7600 512 mb card for $130 which allows me to run Crysis very well.

The PC also has a very strong line up of games coming up and has a lot of older games as well that are still fun and heavily played.

Why is this topic even still alive O_o .

The PC pulling ahard in graphics will have no effect once so ever on consoles.
It never has and it never will (How many more times am i going to have to say this??.

@SC

The Price of developing games on both the PS3 and 360 will be alot less,
just like its so cheap to make games for the Wii now,
it will be the same for the HD consoles as developers will have their engines done etc..

The PC will get games that won't come to the Consoles (Always been the case and has never effected consoles before so why would it now?).

Now you basing your whole argument on the fact that the HD consoles has alot of ports from PC (Not true since almost all of them games where made for consoles first then ported to PC or made for all 3 PCS360 in mind, except for the odd one but most of the big sellers have),
that's meanly cos the HD consoles are so powerful this gen and so much easier then ever to port games from the PC to them.

Where you seem to fail and it's been pointed out to you lots of times already,
the is alot of other 3rd party company's making games for them HD consoles that have always meanly been console developers they are not going to just stop making games for them HD consoles.

the HD consoles software and 3rd party support is not just going to die off.

So thats why it will not matter.
Sorry, but name me all of these games that were made on consoles first then ported to pc that are on the lists I posted. The only one I know is Gears of War.

First i never said made on consoles, i said made for consoles "Or" All 3 being PC, X360 and PS3 in mind, with the odd one that was only planned for the PC to begin with. Unless you wan't to show me most of them big sellers in you're list that came to PC first??. Anyway good way to ignore my other points that i put to you, and pick the only point that you thought you had a valid point on. Ether way this whole thing and what you base you're argument on fails, since the is alot more Multi platform Developers making games for both the PS3 and 360 then the is developers that might only go back to making PC only games. In other words once again it will just be the same as it always has been..

Yeah, but would those games have came to the consoles if there graphics weren't on par with the usual gaming pc? Probably not. Yes there are alot of multiplatform  ps360 only developers, but there are alot of developers who do all three consoles for now too. If they lost these multiplats with pc everything won't be loss, but it will make a pretty big impact on the support.

We're really comparing two different device purposes, here...

When I need to do video work, etc., I go upstairs, hop on my PC, then let it run while I come downstairs to the living room, power up the HDTV/360 and play an FPS with my son. Using a single PC for everything works for some people in some situations, but not for everyone.

I have no desire to maintain a PC upstairs and a gaming PC downstairs when I can simply hook up a 360 to my TV and not have to worry about OS upgrades, hardware upgrades, etc. My next gaming machine upgrade will be a next-gen Xbox or Playstation in about 3-4 years.

Yeah, PC gaming can be the pinnacle of the gaming world, but it will take a lot for it to kill off consoles.

I'm not trying saying it will kill them , but affect them negatively.

@ Zero,When there are less games anounced then yes that may affect it alot. That is why I asked if there will be more exculsives for each console to make up for this.

Microsoft likes games coming out for both PC and XBox360. Since they are both pretty much Microsoft platforms. Win, win for them since games can help keep Windows alive. The development for games on XBox360 and Windows is very similar.

I don't really carea anymore this discussion is getting very stale, because we keep saying the same thing over and over.

There is a very large userbase of pc gamers that will buy the games, and the attach rates are probably alot higher than those on the 360 and ps3. So I don't see how price would affect it unless the userbase was small, and games don't sell which it's isn't and they don't.
lol wut

define "attach rate" because you must not be thinking of the same thing I am thinking of.
I'm talking relative to the pc gamers, rather than everyone who owns a computer.
OK, so would you define "PC gamers" as everyone who ever bought a game for their PC (within the last few years, to make it fair to compare to this gen of consoles)? I am pretty confident that the console attach rate will destroy your PC attach rate.
"I don't really carea anymore this discussion is getting very stale, because we keep saying the same thing over and over."

In that case, how about you shake things up and answer the above post?  Is that a definition of "PC gamers" you are amenable to using for the purpose of attach rates?  Do you mean attach rates of individual games, or attach rates of ALL games combined?  (My above assertion is based on the former definition; applying the latter one will make things much messier.)

If I have blindly overlooked a previous reply please point me to it.
