Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I am starting to doubt there will be high budget 3rd party games for Wii

Nintendo has somewhat failed so far in providing any third party title any kind of significant advertising.
Maybe that will change, but Sony and MSFT have stepped up to the plate and contributed to some marketing of their third parties support...( mainly to fight each others but end result was games from third parties received extra marketing).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

If you were in charge for Nintendo, which Wii 3rd party games would you have significantly advertised?

The 3rd should be advertising their own games and not rely on 1st parties.  Money doesn't grow on tree, you know.

Probably stuff like Red Steel, NMH ( they got advertised but seemed to be publisher only advertising).

Nintendo already gives a lot to third parties... The biggest userbase, the smallest development budgets.

I don't think Nintendo should give them money so that they can make some more money, although some free advertising on the Nintendo Channel would be a good idea (there's a video of PES 2008 there already). Most publishers are big enough to be able to advertise their own games, which is what they should do using part of the money they save by developing on the Wii.

Microsoft and Sony need to pay off third parties because they have almost no other way of differentiating themselves from each other. Nintendo doesn't have this problem, nor do they really need to moneyhat 3rd parties to be successful.

Well they get some free advertising on HD consoles don't they ?

And seeing how advertising/marketing costs are supposedly higher on Wii it's probably not helping either.

All I'm saying is that if a big Third Party game came to the Wii and Nintendo heavilly helped advertising it, it probably do a lot to convince third parties to develop more on the Wii...

If SE decides to release DQX on the Wii then that should quiet a lot of people who doubted the Wii's inability to pull in exclusive third party support. Hell, if SE brought KH3 to the Wii then it's a done deal.

As mentioned by Sherlock99, the Wii will be getting big exclusives such as Fatal Frame IV and Monster Hunter 3.

Nintendo would have looked really desperate if they had advertised these games.

Advertising Red Steel which was a very early effort by a third party to support the Wii woudn't have looked desesperate to me.

It would have sent a message to the developer community saying that Nintendo was willing to help them bridge the gap to their console...

PS : as for the money doesn't grow on tree things, if one of the console maker has some money to spend right now it's Nintendo and anything they can do to help third parties to move to the Wii would probably be seen as a good thing by the Wii user base...

Companies like Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony tend to pay for advertizments for third party published games as a way to "Buy" exclusive games without having to transfer money from one company to another ...

Which makes me think Nintendo's third party difficulties might be the result of Sony and Microsoft's efforts to "Buy" support from third party publishers; which is a dangerous game to be involved in. In the short run this can really benefit Sony and Microsoft because they can maintain "control" over some key third party developers and IPs; over a longer period of time this control will slowly fall away because the inevitable bidding wars will drive the price of a game up, the lure of the leading platform will become greater, and there is only so much money you can spend to gain a single IP.

DMC4 and GTA4 for example aren't exclusives and they did receive some MSFT and Sony advertising...
