Forums - Gaming - Dragon Quest X will go to PSP -- What do YOU think??

As we can see S-E have ditched the Playstation brand and have gone back to nintendo DRAGON QUEST wise.....but the real shock was them going portable. Some would argue the game won't sell now...but ofcourse they need get the appeal to that Pokemon audience and the jobs done.

But what about DQ X. I personally think the Dragon Quest series has gone portable for ever. Recent trends show that PSP is the system of choice in Japan (as the Playstation brand retakes its throne there).....so its only sensible to get DQ X on PSP (The userbase should be around 15 million by then + it will seem like an evolution from DQ IX in the most perfect way possible....going from Portable to Portable.

What do you think?? Or will it go to wii?? Or PS3?? Or Xbox 360?? Or the new Apple console??

DISCUSS!

Well recent trends shows how good is MH2 on the PSP, but the PSP is nowhere near to retake the throne there or become the systemof choice...

The most likely situation is keeping the DQ series on the DS-Wii, SE will not put all their strong games on a PS brand system...

Most likely DQX will be either on DS or Wii, depending on the DQIX reactions of the japanese audience. If the japanese start demanding a console DQ, with better graphics then it will switch to Wii. If the DS is over by then, it will definitely switch to Wii.

"Too old" is no reason for japanese companies and its audience, so if the DS is still popular around then and the japanese haven´t totally ditched it for a new portable, there will still be high chances for DQ to stick to it. FFXII came out the year of transition on ps2, that crappy Dawn of Mana as well. FFXIII was originally meant to be a ps2 game. More extreme case is that of Atlus´ Persona 3 and the upcoming Persona 4, both for ps2.

If I'm not mistaken the Dragon Quest series has always been characterized by simple, stylized art and relatively simple mechanics. The visual style won't significantly benefit from added horsepower and it's always been essentially a softcore RPG so there's no reason to expect sales to improve by selling it to a smaller hardcore audience.

Dragon Quest sorftcore???? Dragon quest 8 really wasn't simple, FF is by far the more "softcore" game.

no..it will hit a nin system as nin owns japan

its true when you born over there Mario is the first thing you see and when you die he comes in the night to take your soul...

unless you were bad then you only get gay toad.....

*i cant back any of this up*

Perhaps a spin off DQ game will be on the PSP, but probably not DQ10. I expect DQ10 to be on the Wii.

PSP is the system of choice among MH fans, just among them. If you check the trend, PSP HW sales have been dropping as MH sales dropped. In about 1 month DS = PSP and that's just the begining, wait till the remaining DQ games arrive on DS. There are 3 coming DQ5, DQ6 and DQ9.

PSP didnt even get a remake or a spin off, so why in hell will the series go to a system that 1) Sells an abysmal number of SW compared to its HW 2) has a userbase that's not even half of that of the market leader 3) Not a single DQ game has been released on it, while there have been a lot of DQ games that sold extraordinarily well on its competitor console.

I still think DQX will end up on the Wii.

@Soriku

well thats flawed analysis....PSP has been outselling DS way before MH even came out..

the Portable is now catching on in Japan....and DQ 10 should be here within 3 years at most

Flawed analysis? Last I checked, the DS is light years ahead of the PSP so Soriku is right on the money. The only reason why the PSP is selling well compared to the DS is because 1 out of 5 Japanese people already own the DS. If they already have a DS then what other portable system is available for them to purchase?

As for DQ staying portable forever or how it might go back to Sony, I would have to disagree on both ends. I feel as though the Wii will get DQX and as for DQXI, that'll go to what ever system is the current market leader at that time.

The DS is the current market leader so DQIX goes to that and the Wii is the current console market leader so chances of the Wii landing the next main DQ title is highly possible.

I would 100% agree with Soriku. DQ10 will be on Wii or DS2.

I COULD see it on PS3.  But not PSP.  I know it makes little sense.. yet i could still see it happening.

Regardless what i expect to happen.

If DQ9 sells near or better then recent DQ games.  DS or DS2 gameplay.

If it doesn't i expect it to hit the Wii.  Or if Nintendo "pays" them to shift consoles.

I mean if Pokemon shows anything it's that handhelds are the place for RPGs.

Which is sad because i hate DS's tiny tiny screen.  Nobody would be happier then me if PSP beat DQ and suddenly it got all the middleground SRPG games to go alone with Jeanne D'arc.

Why would they do that. They put DQIV on the ds so people buy ds' for it then they release the next one on the psp? No matter how you put it the ds has more sales than the psp in japan, and until that happens this statement is false. "Recent trends show that PSP is the system of choice in Japan" I believe it will go to the wii though because by the time it releases new handhelds will be out.
