Looney Tunes.
Rug Rats.
Reboot
Pokemon (when it didn't suck)
And a bunch of others.

Now, they suck. I'm serious. They just suck. They suck more than a vacuum. Last time I watched cartoons, back in elementary, they showed signs of suckage, but every now and then when I flip through channels I notice that cartoons are just getting worse. They're all high school cartoons having to do with kids in high school. They're so ordinary, and typical, drained 100% of anything adult, and replaced with lame, imature, childish humour. They're utterly boring. Either that, or I've just grown out of them a long time ago. But if that's the case then why do I still enjoy the older ones? Nostalgia? Naaaa the newer ones just suck.

It just doesn't work when written out.

Tom & Jerry (1930s/40s).

The wordless/slapstick humor can compete with the best silent movies, the cutting, the tempo, the sensational montage of music/sounds/pictures are still outstanding and were way ahead of their time.

No wonder that 60, 70 years later kids still love these shorts today (there was an online poll for most favourite cartoons lately on the local Cartoon Network and the children voted for T&J by a mile).

In my opionion only a few of the best Disney cartoon shorts (i.e. those with Donald and/or Chip & Chap) can compete with the brilliance of the 30s/40s Tom & Jerry cartoons.

street sharks

I tend to agree with this, but there are some modern cartoons that are really genius, such as:

SpongeBob Square Pants

Kids Next Door

Fairly Odd Parents, which recently had an episode where they ventured thru alot of the old cartoons mentioned in this thread... it was epic nostalgia
