Wii makes playing games more interactive, meaning that you simulate motions in order to control the game, some may like it, some wont. It seems that a LOT of people are enjoying the new ways to play.

It feels better to control a gun by aiming directly at the screen rather than using a stick to move the cursor.

It feels better to turn a wheel rather than flick the stick to turn.

It feels better to swing a bat/a golf club or anything to mimic the motion the character does on the screen, than rather push a button.

There's a lot of things that can be done with the Wiimote, really infinite, but with that attitude of yours, they wont accomplish anything, good games require a lot of effort, not just input gimmick sell game, but rather make a clever use of the Wiimote like lately we have been seeing from 3rd and 1st party titles.

I think you are overstating the powers of the wii mote a little. Not everything can be done with it...I can't even control the camera in Soul Calibur legends and No more heroes... Wiimote does throw, aim-shoot and shake and thats about it.

Besides, what makes you think that best developers form Capcom, Konami and Epic would bother to invest this effort to figure out how to center game design around a controller. I think they would rather make games with great visuals, great story and cutting edge gameplay no matter what controller is being used...

^^^ Portal is a great game, awesome production values and polish.

Valve forced the FPS genre to evolve when it made Half-life 1, they made a revolutionary game in TF2 that really brings the casual audience into the genre of online multiplayer. Portal was a completely new genre or old genre remade... Anyway it was revolutionary again. They also released steam which was revolutionary in how content was delivered on the PC in one complete package.

Tease.

Maybe cause motion controls are the future? If MS is already planning on introducing them, and Sony has already integrated them.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

u know wuts interesting. this is like the first generation where no newcomers have entered. every single company existed before. for some reason i think one company is gunna drop out. every single generation, it seems that at least one company drops, and another replaces. i dont think n e more will be replacing because micro sony and ninty are too powerful to be over taken but i do think that at least 1 will go down and im looking at micro or sony. nintendo will always be here. always. micro and sony to me seem too generic. sure there are lots of classics, but maybe itz cuz i grew up with ninty n the snes and n64. i dunno.

i would call the wii revolutionary if you could lets say, control links sword.
make ur own slashes, according to how you swing etc.

but all it does, is replacing a button with 1 type of waggle or whatever.

This is really easy to see with twilight princess, its the same game on both consoles. The wii-mote doesnt add anything in the game, it only give u the illusion u control link more directly which it doesnt.

Wiimote is good, the question is the button. Either add some more button or another analog stick or just developer haven't figured out the way to use the camera. "bother to invest this effort to figure out how to center game design around a controller" , actually they can't do much on controller before Wii released. Capcom actually done that, they(or Clover) figured out on how to do well with the controller as well as the game design(Okami, I mean PS2 version). Konami actually also put a lot of effort on controller and come out with something Revolutionary (PES 2008) that can't be done with previous control mechanism even PC(shooting with motion-sensing not button), that is not some stupid unresponsive EA style gameplay. The one who told you to play Godfather is just stupid, and we can't blame him because no one really develop a game for that genre on Wii because they thought Wii is just an amateur console. Godfather is just half-ass ported cross-platform game. If you want something good on Wii, like Portal, it actually can be done on Wii early even before they released on other platform. Just because they(the developer) thought Wii is a amateur console, so they don't really develop sophisticated gameplay on Wii, Portal doesn't need very good graphics, it can be done with at least Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3 type graphics and release on Wii.

Try PES 2008, although they don't effort on pushing Wii's graphics. From IGN.

9.0 Gameplay
Pro Evo has changed the game of soccer, hopefully forever. Pointer control blends speed and fluidity with unprecedented strategy, and it’s an extremely rewarding innovation.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Online, Wii-mote player trading, Wii Connect 24 team data sharing, Mii mode, Chaimpions Mode, full team/player editor, leagues, and cup play. Wow.

For experiencing gameplay, I would also recommend Warioware(almost fully use Wiimote potential), SMG, Z&W(is 3rd person, but no killing, you probably won't like it.Excellent puzzle, thou).

No More Heroes is great with the Excellent killing mechanic or control, this is how you should kill in a game. It can't never(I am not talking about Wiimote's potential) be 1 on 1, mainly because you are not a Swordman, you don't have swordsmanship, how can you do it better when it is 1 on 1 control? Especially when you need to do some special skills, are you going to flip over the console? Hell No.

If you considered traditional is good, that will be Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection & Mercury Meltdown Revolution, this is excellent example how smaller game can be good on Wii. How can a Pinball game be good and get above 80 score?Well, good physics and real life like control. However for your style, I don't think that your taste at all, so don't buy it.

Back to the topics, Wii & PS3 are the two mysterious console, what can it really do, we really don't know. However, we at least know what Wii can do for some already. It's gimmick, a good gimmick, a gimmick that will become a natural control someday. PS3 is remained mystery, Lair told us it is not good at motion-sensing, GTA IV told us it need to be toned down to 620P, Haze told us exclusive won't make good graphics and gameplay, cross-platform told us it will have more bugs, freeze and framerate issue. What $ony brings us is just a more expensive console & disappointment. PS3 really is the SHIT, however the bad one.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.
