Forums - Sony - PS3 Problem

I've been having a problem with my 20g PS3. I recently moved back home from college and i plugged my PS3 into my TV at home, the system starts up but there is no audio or video displaying on screen. I did switch tv's in the process of moving (from the dorms to home) but i never manually changed the video settings on my PS3 (and yes the component cables are plugged in correctly). Anyone know what the problem is?

if you are using a different connection to your old tv, i.e component v HDMI, then you might need to reset the output, do this by holding the power icon for 10 secs or so.

hold the power button

you need to manually change the resolution for it to work

i was using the component cables both times. I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds but that doesn't work. I held the power button for 10 seconds (starting with the PS3 off) and this turned the PS3 one (one beep) and then a few seconds later another beep (but nothing) and then on the 10th second the System turned off. Though now the audio does work (didn't before)

Unplug the cables from the Ps3 turn it on and then slowly plug it in while kinda jigling it. Your tv will most likely flicker and such. You just got to find the right spot. (sounds like your cables got lose. do you move your ps3 around a lot?)

Or try using the composite cables

or you coulda done somethin silly and mixed the wires up. double check.

That's not a bad idea. At the very least, it will confirm or rule out a cable problem. Secondly, if it's an internal video setting problem on the PS3, it will force the console to switch settings to 480i, giving you a screen to adjust the settings back down.

Glad to see you worked it out. I love the multiple video settings on the PS3 but frankly, the console deals with inconsistencies terribly.

I love the minute settings you can screw with on the PS3 but it's frustrating to see a console like the 360 (which is inferior for video settings) deal with changes so easily.

This happens to me when i switch my PS3 output from my Hitachi HDTV to my Hanzg PC monitor. I was told it has something to do with the PS3 creating a digital signature for every monitor/TV it uses.
