Forums - General - The Miyazaki Thread of Creativity, Brilliance, and Awesomeness

He's basically my favorite director/writer ever now.  I was wondering if anyone else loves his works. If so, what are your favorites?  If you haven't seen anything from him, or don't like his films, why? For his filmography and review scores check Rotten Tomatoes.

My favorites from him are Spirited Away and Laputa: Castle in the Sky, but there honestly isn't a single film he's had a part in that I haven't loved.  My least favorite is probably Princess Mononoke, but I still consider it far above anything Disney has ever done.

He's got a new film due out this year called Panyo on the Cliff by the Sea, which is pushing a completely new animation style never seen before.  First screen of the movie follows.

Spirited away and kiki's delivery service are the only ones i've seen.. but both were good. Spirited away is 100X better though.

I would just like to note that Miyazaki holds Diseny in very high esteem, and was inspired/influnced by a lot of what he did.

I will go with Howl's Moving Castle for favorite that is by far my wifes favorite movie.

I think I may start a greatest anime thread, but Grave of the Fireflies almost always wins.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

I've seen:

My Neighbor Totoro
Princess Mononoke
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

In that order. I've loved all 4 and can't really pick a favorite. I have Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away, but haven't watched them yet. I need to get on that.

Great movies all of them, and yeah, definitely watch Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away.

Hmm...I've researched some of his works and they seem great. Art and character designs are fantastic. I have yet to see some of his movies though (are they released in the US or are they Japan only?). Which demographic are these movies targeted at btw? Family?

Mostly family. They are watchable by kids, but also have some deeper messages that kids may not get right away.  Anyone can enjoy them though to be sure.
