Im sure they have always been £25 here in the UK, I recall buying one when GT2 came out.

And they are $25 now. It would be really unlikely they would go up in price since then.

I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure they were around the $25-$30 area. Controllers seem to have gotten much more expensive lately. I thought the extra Xbox 360 controller I bought was expensive only to see the PS3 controller priced higher! The Wii Remote is up there, although not as expensive as the PS360 controllers.

 I think they were $40 originally and later moved to $50 with the PS2. Controllers seem to mirror game prices.
