I think certain types of video games help with our logical abilities Puzzle games in particular.

I do think they make us smarter, Pokemon basically taught me how to read and then there's games like Brain Training.

 Brain trainning doesn't make you any smarter , you could argue it helps maintain brain stimulation (something important for old people ) and possibly improve mental reflexes , but it doesn't make you smarter.

 

And as for learning how to read from pokemon.....I learnt how to read in school.
