Is it important to have a well written storyline in a game or is it all about game play. look at the past year or so of gaming we have Uncharted(ps3) Bioshock(360) Zelda(wii) all these games have awesome stories, but what about you is the story really that important or is it all about game play. Tell me what type of games you guys like: (Good story or Great game play)

Old school Final Fantasy games had good story..

Also Secret of Mana series had great story to it..


But my Favorite game with a awesome story to it has to be Half-life series..

Story is more important in some genres than in others. For example, story is one of the main assets of an RPG, especially a Japanese RPG.  An FPS can have a good story, but it is not required.

if a game had a great story but Bad gameplay i cant get in to it, but if i had to choose it, between Gameplay, and story it would had to be Gameplay..

It's always important to have good stories, but many games don't need it as they barely focus on it.

I love game stories, that's why my 2 favorite genres are Adventure and Western RPG.

I dont play games without a good story. For a while, games where going away from good story lines but that trend is reversing. Thats why some of my fav games are

story is very important if a game has story+game play you have an A+ game

Stories are very, very important. The whole reason I don't like GTA games is because the game is too loosely wrapped around the story.

Some of my favourite stories in games have been Call of Duty 4, Fable, Half Life (all iterations), Uncharted, and the Jak games.
