Wonderful poetic description, thank you Mistershine. Those were exactly my feelings as well, but the massive, MASSIVE airplay of that terrible Titanic song made the music part of my brain 100% resistant to her.
And another event helped a bit to ease the pain:
The appearance of M.C., the whistle buoy from NY that haunted our ears & brains from 1990 onwards ("Vision of Love" was her first strike and she caught the world unprepared for such an early, perfidious C.D./W.H. marketing mix clone).
