All those east-european countries give eachother loads of points... It's not funny anymore to watch, each year, some East-Europe country wins..

Same thing happens with Scandinavia+Iceland, Ireland-UK, Portugal-Spain-Andorra so quit your moaning. Besides, it´s not their fault that they are divided in so many countries, if the big european countries cared for Eurovison( which they don´t and that´s right) they could have said a clear no to America for the Yugoslavian war.

Wait, are you trying to say that the major European powers should have changed their position on a major political event in order to gain an advantage in a singing contest?

I'm sure I must be misunderstanding you. Surely.

Lol he is XD.   But I agree with Memory2zack first sentence.  Finland won recently do we consider it now as an East European country? And serious the most of the Western Europe songs were sucky;...France WHAT?  England WHAT?  German...Sigh?  Spain ...XD?.....   imo Russia was pretty good, I preferred Turkey though..

ABBA, Waterloo, 1974.

The only world career ever started by this redundant song contest.

Not true, you forget Celine dion 1988.

Around the Network

As far as I know this woman (whose name I refuse to type due to sheer ugliness of her plastic songs) was already a big star in Canada and France before she participated in this song contest.

ABBA were unknown before the contest, Waterloo started their career in 1974 (6 million copies sold worldwide).

True but every French Singer who is popular is also popular in countries where they speak French. Abba was also popular with their song Waterloo in Sweden before they were on the Eurovision weren't they?

So far I know Celine Dion probably never would be famous in like the U.S.A. If she never attended the Eurovision (but she reaches heaven though with her Titanic song).

Fair enough.

The ESC helped her career enormously, but I think she´d have had a world career even without the contest. The world seemed to have waited for her voice and her songs and Titanic was only the climax of a sensational career.

And even worse: Without her (and without Whitney Houston) I think we would have never heard of the worst curse: M.C., the crying seal. But okay, disliking her music doesn´t mean that I can blame the Canadian singer for everything. She just did her job, millions love(d) her music and there´s tons of “music” in this world which let her songs sound like Chopin´s Etudes in comparison.

If you read what´s in the parenthesis, then it will be clear to you that I imply that silly things like Eurovision shouldn´t be be taken into consideration in politics. I was merely giving a hopeless solution to MrKillerbees .
