Forums - Sony - is it just me or is vgchartz undertracking the ps3 completely

Jjseth, that's irrelevant unless you know how many that store orders (game and console) each shipment and even then it doesn't do much.

Think about it, if th store only ordered a couple to start with....well, how does that suggest VGC is undertracking?

I think the PS3 is undertraked ...

I don't actualy have the real numbers

but there is information that has indicated to me that Vgchartz may not be tracking the PS3 as accuratley as it's really performing.

Leo-j called this a hunch, so unless you came with real info I guess this just your wishes and hopes...

Well, I saw something interesting this weekend. I went to Wal-Mart with my brother and he was ready to jump to the PS3 and get that. So we went there, and they only had 2 systems (40 gb) left and we picked up one and another guy picked up the other. However, they didn't have any new games able to be purchased as they were all sold out. The only games they had were older and pretty much crappy games left in stock. (They did have 2 copies of burnout paradise though, and my brother picked up that one.)

Keep in mind this was at 11pm on a Saturday night, so I have a feeling that VGchartz may be undertracking the sales of the PS3 just from what I have seen. Seeing how a huge retailer like Wal Mart in a city that really is feeling the economic pinch was out of stock of many games and systems (after my brother bought one) I have a feeling there is a undertracking of the PS3 and the games.

WOW, I can't still believe you're still posting the same crap you posted last year when PS3 didnt even sell in the US.
Let me guess, there was a huge stack of Wii's also and a mountain of X360's sitting there as well.

As a matter of fact, VGChartz may be overtracking PS3 sales if we go by NPD. Japan sales are really spot on, Europe also. Dont try to make us believe PS3 is sold out, cause not even the greatest PS3 fanboy will believe you. All games sold out? Why doesn't that show in NPD either? PS3 isn't selling as much games as MS or Nintendo. Maybe Walmarts aren't restocking at all cause sales aren't that good. Dont discredit VGChartz cause of your irrational beliefs.

Here's the truth: every single tracking company is against the PS3, in a huge conspiracy, so in reality PS3 sold 66 million as of today, but MS and Nintendo have paid them to show different numbers. Maybe that's what you wanted to hear.

I have one question for you, who pee'd in your cheerio's this morning?  They were out of Wii's, but had a huge stack of 360's and games for the 360 in stock.    Can you explain how a Super Wal mart (one of the top 5 stores for sales in the state of Iowa) be completely out of PS3's and many games?

Does the NPD or VGChartz gets sales information directly from Wal-Mart? I don't believe so, and they both use a calculation to guesstimate the sales numbers.  And I never inferred that the PS3 was sold out everywhere, just that I found it interesting that a high volume Wal-Mart was completely out of them after my brother bought the last one.

And I didn't make any comparison to the Wii or 360 in my post, you assumed that I am denying that both have sold more life to date then both of those.  They have outsold the PS3, but the PS3 is gaining ground on the 360.   Do you really live life praying for Sony to fail just so  you can feel safe with your choice of game system?   I love my PS3 for the games and love it for giving me what I want out of a game system.

In the meantime, here's a LOLcat to make you feel better and cheer up.

Its the old shipped vs sold .....funny thing is that for vgchartz shipped=sold for BOTH the Wii (plausible) and the 360 (laughable).

So its not that the page undertracks the PS3 ,its more that it absolutely overtracks the 360.

@Diomedes:
That really is not even close to the truth. Although the gap between shipped and sold is the largest for PS3, the difference really isn't that big.

Vgchartz worldwide numbers for March 28 2008 vs shipment numbers:

PS3: 11.29M vs 12.85M, difference is 1.56M
Wii: 23.39M vs 24.45M, difference is 1.06M
Xbox 360: 17.88M vs 19M, difference is 1.12M

no, it's not you. and no it's not "Shipped". Sony has a new policy about saying it is now Sold, not shipped. and besides VGchartz cannot count every PS3 sold on every country in the world. we only get info from the 3 main territories.

As of March 31, 2007, Sony altered their reporting policy from manufactured units to sold to retail units.

This is stated in all their quarterly and annual financial reports.

Yes, sold to retail. Not sold to customers. That means units that have been ordered and are on boats on the way to Target are included in this number. It also includes the units on shelves, in back rooms, etc. Sony now uses the word "sold" and the word "shipped" interchangably, where in the past "shipped" meant "manufactured and shipped to holding warehouses."

Wii: 23.39M vs 24.45M, difference is 1.06M

Consider that the Wii, which is selling at a rate of about 2x the PS3 world wide, would have about twice as many systems in their shipping pipeline (on boats, etc) as the PS3.  The other thing to consider with the Wii is that retailers hold stocks for big releases sometimes, so there may be a time when there are an extra 200k - 500k (estimated) units sitting in the US unsold because Mario Kart is about to launch or because Wii Fit is about to launch and the stores want to advertise Wii systems available to sell with the games.

Wow that cat is uncanny.
